Explore!

It's Tuesday, which means it's time to share a project created for Topflight StampsI've had the itch to travel and explore for a while now, which has been thwarted. However, I can always imagine, right? I've had the Camel Travel and the Desert Mirage from the Art by Marlene Artsy rabia Collection by Studio Light for awhile now and decided it was time to use them to make this large card. I *think* I might have seen a similar scene on Pinterest or Instagram, but I can't recall who made it, but kudos to whomever are definitely deserved.

When you think of camels and the desert, you think of pyramids, lots of sand, and an oasis with some palm trees. I can't sketch for love or money, but I can use stencils, so I used the Totally Triangular Stencil by AALL and Create to make my pyramids. I also used two of the Acetate Hill Masks-Stencil by Lavinia Stamps to create my desert.

Here's my card.

Instructions:
  1. Use Tuxedo Black Memento ink to stamp the camel from the Camel Travel Stamp Set onto white cardstock and onto label paper.
  2. Fussy-cut the label paper version and place atop the camel on the image panel.
  3. Place the image panel onto the STAY-tion, secured at the top with magnet.
  4. Place one of the  Acetate Hill Masks-Stencil horizontally over the image panel to serve as a both a stencil and a mask.
  5. Place the Totally Triangular Stencil over the mask onto the left side of the image panel and secure with magnets.
  6. Brush the appropriately named Desert Sands Memento ink over the the hilly mask then over one of the triangles from the Totally Triangular Stencil to form the first pyramid.
  7. Place the edges of Post-It Notes covering the edge of the triangle, shift the Totally Triangular Stencil to the right, then brush Desert Sand over the triangle onto the image panel.
  8. Repeat Step #7 until you have a chain of five pyramids..
  9. Trace the triangle onto the top sheet of the Post-It Note pad, then fussy-cut five sheets at once creating five masks.
  10. To create the desert in front of the pyramids, brush Desert Sands ink over one of the other Acetate Hill Masks-Stencil onto the image panel.
  11. Shift the mask downwards and repeat Step #10.
  12. Remove and clean all the stencils and masks because they like to be clean.
  13. Place the fussy-cut Post-It Note triangles over their pyramid counterparts as masks.
  14. Use Tuxedo Black Memento ink to stamp the first building from the Desert Mirage Stamp Set (the one with the palm tree) onto the left side of the image panel and onto label paper. Fussy-cut the label paper version and place atop its counterpart as a mask.
  15. Repeat Step #14 and all of the buildings are stamped and masked.
  16. Brush Summer Sky Memento ink over the top part of the image panel to create the sky.
  17. Brush Angel Pink Memento ink randomly over the sky to add a touch of pink.
  18. Remove and retain all masks.
  19. Use black Multi-liner to correct any incomplete lines.
  20. Use Copic markers to color the images.
  21. Use Black glitter pen to accent the strings dangling from the camel's neck and connecting the blanket with the baubles.
  22. Use Copic markers and a straight edge (hahahaha) to add detail the pyramids and the desert.
  23. Trim the image panel to 5" x 8", edge with either Summer Sky or Desert Sand Memento ink.
  24. Adhere the image panel to patterned paper cut .25" larger than the image panel, then to a 5.5" x 8.5" kraft card.
  25. Use Onyx Black VersaFine Ink to stamp the sentiment from the Destination Unknown Clear Polymer Stamp Set onto a scrap of patterned paper.  Heat set with sparkly black embossing powder.
  26. Use the center of one of the dies from the Fancy Framed Tags Die set to cut the sentiment panel.
  27. Use the matching frame from the set to cut a scrap of Kraft card.
  28. Adhere the sentiment die-cuts and add red gemstones from the Diamond Sparkles Gemstones Festive Selection to finish the card.
A Note: I used Memento ink for the backgrounds because it is Copic friendly and I knew I'd be touching up the pyramids, desert, and the sky.
