BOOP - A Card for Lost Coast Portal to Creativity's Challenge 200 - Cats and Dogs!

Greetings! Here's my second card for Lost Coast Portal to Creativity's August Challenge 200 — Cats and Dogs. If you've been to my blog before you probably know that I'm a bit of a crazy cat lady. So this card is a rare occurence for me as it uses a DOG stamp, specifically the Pokey Dog Rubber Stamp by Lost Coast Designs! There is something so endearing about his floppy ears and bug-eyed expression that just appeals to me.

Stamping Platform

Instructions:

1. Make a top folding A2 card from black cardstock. Set aside.
2. Use Tuxedo Black Ink to stamp Pokey Dog Rubber Stamp twice — once onto the white cardstock and once onto repositionable sticker paper.
3. Color the dog with Copic markers.
4. Outline the dog with a B41marker.
5. Fussy-cut the sticker paper version of the stamped dog and adhere over it's colored counterpart on the image panel.
6. Place a piece of low-tack tape horizontally across the image panel where the lines to ground the dog are stamped.
7. Sponge or brush Della Blue Ink over the masked image.
8. Lift the tape and use the N markers to color the base of the image.
9. Use the pointing hand die to cut white cardstock.
10. Color the hand with Copic markers.
11. Adhere the hand so that the finger is touching Pokey's nose, startling him.
12. Trim the image panel to 3 ¾" x 5".
    
13. Use the alphabet die to cut black cardstock
14. Adhere the word "BOOP" as shown.
15. Adhere the image panel to the reserved black card.

Note:

There are larger versions of the ZZ Top Gnome 1 and ZZ Top Gnome 2 Rubber Stamps available as well. 

Instructions:

1. Create an A6 card from Raven cardstock. Set aside.
2. Place a piece of white cardstock onto the stamping platform.
3. Position the ZZ Top gnomes from the Mini Gnomes 2 Rubber Stamp Set facedown about an inch from the bottom of the cardstock.
4. Ink both stamps with Tuxedo Black Memento ink and stamp twice — once onto the image panel and once onto repositionable sticker paper.
5. Fussy-cut the sticker paper versions of the gnomes and place them over their counterparts on the image panel as masks.
6. Remove the image panel from the stamping platform and place it onto the STAY-tion.
7. Place a piece of low-tack tape across the bottom of the image panel.
8. Sponge or brush London Fog Memento ink over the tape and the stamped images to create a grey background.
9. Place the Deco Glitz Stencil over the masked gnomes and sponge or brush London Fog Memento ink over the masked gnomes and the stencil to create a subtle tone on tone background.
10. Remove the low-tack tape and reposition it so that it's covering the gnomes.
11. Sponge or brush Desert Sand Memento ink over the tape onto the base of the image panel to create the "floor".
12. Use small circle dies from the Nestabilities die set to cut repositionable sticker paper.
13. Trim the repositionable sticker paper to leave semi-circles apertures on the sticker paper.
14. Place the apertures under the gnomes' feet, but covering the rest of the stage.
15. Place Repositionable Scotch Tape on a diagonal from the top of the image panel to the edges of each circle.
16. Sponge or brush Dandelion Memento ink over the tape and the sticker paper to create a yellow spotlight.
17. Remove the tape, sticker paper, and masks.
18. Use Copic markers to color the Mini Gnomes.
19. Use a white gel pen to add white highlights to their guitars.
20. Back a 2" wide strip of velvet paper with two-sided tape.
21. Use the curtains and swag dies from the Take the Stage die set to cut the velvet paper.
22. Back a scrap of silver metallic paper with two-sided tape.
23. Use the tie-back die from the Take the Stage die set to cut the silver cardstock.
24. Adhere the curtains and swags to dimensional tape.
25. Adhere the curtains die-cuts to either side of the image panel.
26. Adhere the swag die-cuts over the curtains.
27. Adhere the tie-backs to the curtains.
28. Adhere the image panel to a piece of 4.25" x 6" patterned paper.
29. Back silver metallic cardstock with two-sided tape.
30. Use the alphabet die to cut the silver cardstock.
31. Adhere the "You Rock" sentiment to the card front. Try to make it straighter than my version!
32. Adhere the card front to the reserved black card to finish it.

Coffee and Christmas!

It's Tuesday, which means it's time to share a project created for Topflight Stamps. Instructions for the Tag:

1. Use magnets to secure a piece of white cardstock onto the stamping platform.
2. Position the coffee cup stamp, face down on the white cardstock.
3. Press the lid of the stamping platform onto the stamp, lift, ink the stamp, and stamp. Repeat if necessary for a clear impression.
4. Place a piece of Removable Label paper onto the platform (over the image panel), re-ink the stamp, and stamp. 
5. Fussy-cut the label version to use as a mask.
6. Remove the stamp from the stamping platform and clean.
7. Place a scrap of Post-It Note or label paper over the bottom of the coffee cup.
8. Position the Santa Parrot stamp face down as desired on the coffee cup. 
9. Press the lid of the stamping platform onto the stamp, lift, ink the stamp, and stamp. Repeat if necessary for a clear impression.
10. Place a piece of Removable Label paper onto the platform (over the image panel), re-ink the stamp, and stamp.
11. Fussy-cut the label version of the parrot and place it on its counterpart on the image panel.
12. Remove the image panel from the stamping platform and secure it to the STAY-tion with magnets.
13. Position Post-It Notes along the sides of the coffee cup, under it, and to cover the lid.
14. Place the magnetic ruler across the coffee cup over the parrot's feet.
15. Brush Periwinkle Prism ink over the top part of the masked parrot onto the image panel.
16. Shift the ruler so that it's covering the top part of the coffee cup/parrot image.
17. Brush London Fog Memento ink over the image.
18. Remove Post-It Notes from the sides of the coffee cup.
19. Adhere the mask over the coffee cup.
20. Tear a piece of Label paper and position it horizontally over the bottom of the image panel.
21. Brush Abandoned Coral and Festive Berries Distress inks over the image panel.
22. Blot the background ink with a baby wipe to soften the colors. Heat set.
23. Remove the image panel from the STAY-tion and place it back onto the stamping platform, secured with magnets.
24. Position the snowflake stamps face down on the inked background as desired.
25. Press the lid of the stamping platform onto the stamp, lift, ink the stamp with New Canvas White Palette ink, and stamp. Repeat if necessary for a clear impression. 
26. Repeat steps #24 and #25 until you have the coverage you like.
27. Take the coffee steam stamp and position it face down on the image panel.
28. Repeat Step #25.
29. Ink the stamp with London Fog Memento ink and stamp again. This will add a bit of contrast to the white ink to make it look more vapory. (Today's word).
30. Ink the stamp with the white ink again and stamp to lighten the grey.
31. Remove the image panel from the stamping platform and heat set.
32. Lift the masks and color the parrot and the ground under him.
33. Add the Nuvo drops to the ground and spread with your finger. Set aside to let dry.
34. Trim a piece of patterned paper to 3.25" x 6".
35. Trim a piece of white cardstock to 3.5" x 6.25".
36. Use the Duo Punch on both of the top corners of the plaid paper and the white cardstock to create the tag shape.
37. Sponge the edges of the plaid paper with Worn Lipstick Distress ink, then adhere to the white tag. 
38. Secure a piece of the plaid patterned paper to the stamping platform with magnets.
39. Position the "Merry Christmas" sentiment from the Classic Sentiments Stamp set face down onto the center of the plaid panel.
40. Press the lid onto the stamp, lift, ink with Onyx Black VersaFine ink, and stamp. Ink and stamp again if necessary. Remove the stamp.
41. Position the "OK. But.Coffee.First" stamp face down under the Christmas sentiment on the plaid panel.
42. Repeat Step #37, remove the plaid paper from the platform, and heat set.
43. Cut the sentiment with a speech bubble die, cut off the left edge of the bubble, and sponge the bubble with Worn Lipstick Distress Ink.
44. When the glitter glue is dry, trim the image panel, then adhere to the tag.
45. Determine the center of the top of the tag, punch a circle, then thread fibers through the tag to finish it. 

Gah. Now it's time for you to go get a cup of coffee or a leisure beverage. Or maybe combine both in form of  spiked coffee. Yum!!!

Prepared? Ready for instructions set #2.

Instructions for the card:

1. Cut mixed media cardstock with the coffee cup die.
2. Cut white cardstock with the coffee lid die from the set.
3. Secure the coffee cup on a stamping platform with magnets and position the Santa Hat facedown on the coffee cup.
4. Press the stamping platform's lid onto the stamp, ink with Memento ink, and stamp.  Repeat if necessary to get a good image.
5. Stamp the Santa Hat onto a Post-It Note or removable label paper, then fussy-cut to create a mask.
6. Place the mask over the hat's counterpart on the coffee cup.
7. Position the camel's face and neck down on the coffee cup/image panel so that the top part of his head will be covered by the Santa Hat.
8. Repeat Step #3 and Step #4, though this time you'll be be creating a mask for the camel.
9. Place the camel mask over the camel on the coffee cup/image panel.
10. Remove the coffee cup from the stamping platform and move it to the STAY-tion, secured with magnets.
11. Sponge Shabby Shutters and Peeled Paint Distress ink over the mask and onto the coffee cup/image panel.
12. Dab the inked cup to lighten/soften the intensity of the green ink. This didn't work as well as it did with the pinks/reds on the tag.
13. Heat set.
14. Brush Forest Moss Distress ink over the Concerto stencil on the top part of the coffee cup and over the Large Circles Dinky stencil on the bottom of the cup. This kind of faded in, but still looked cool, so I perservered.
15. Heat set.
16. Remove the coffee cup/image panel from the STAY-tion and remove the masks.
17. Color the camel and his hat with Copic markers. I also used Copic markers to color the background around the cup to even it out and add some shading. Overkill probably. What do I know?
18. Use Copic markers to add some shading to the white coffee cup lid.
19. Adhere the lid of the coffee cup to the the coffee cup.
20. Cut a piece of patterned paper to 4.75" x 6.75" and edge with Tea Dye Distress ink.
21. The patterned paper has a reverse side, which matches perfectly. Secure a piece of this to the stamping platform with magnets.
22. Place the sentiment stamp face down onto the the solid-ish patterned paper.
23. Press the lid of the platform onto the back of the stamp, lift the platform, ink the stamp with Onyx Black VersaFine ink, and stamp the sentiment.
24. Heat set.
25. Use the speech bubble die to cut the sentiment, trim it slightly, then edge it with Tea Dye Distress ink.
26. Add the two patterns of washi tape to the base of the patterned paper as shown.
27. Adhere the coffee cup to the card front.
28. Adhere the sentiment as shown.
29. Adhere the card front to a 5" x 7" red card.
30. Pat yourself on the back if you made it through both sets of instructions.

Getting into the Spirit!

Here's my card with Skelly Tonn, from the wonderful Randi Dandi Halloween Series One rubber stamps from the exclusive Rick St. Dennis Collection at I Brake for Stamps.

Skelly Tonn was stamped with Tuxedo Black Memento ink (Imagine Crafts) and colored with Copic markers. The image was fussy-cut, then edged with a black marker.  All the patterned paper was edged with Black Soot Distress ink (Ranger).

I was delighted to discover that patterned papers from the Eerie Collection (Basic Grey) matched the brightly colored image.

Green cardstock was die-cut with the Happy Halloween die set (Top Dog Dies). Vellum was die-cut with one of the dies from the the Tiny Bubbles set (Memory Box).

After the card was assembled Red Spica Glitter pen (Copic) accents were added to the cigarette tip, and all three sets of eyes. Several layers of Clear Gelly Glaze pen (Sakura) were added to the Skelly Tonn's eyes, teeth, cigarette holder, plus the skulls on the bows and cuff.

Gift Card Pillow Box!

It's December and the beginning of that crazy time of year, known chez Kathi as ChrisBirthdayKah. As such, I'll be scrambling for various ways to give gift cards and other small gifts (jewelry, candy, tickets). This Pillow Box features Bunnie/ATC Diva. and will be used for a Dunkin' Donuts gift card.  Bunnie is one of a bunch of fabulous ATC Divas rubber stamps by Rubber Romance that are available at I Brake for Stamps.

Bunnie was stamped with Tuxedo Black Memento ink (Tsukineko/Imagine Crafts) and colored with Copic markers to match a sheet of plaid paper from the Eskimo Kisses 6x6 pad (Basic Grey). After coloring the background, the image panel was die-cut with a die from the Rectangles set of dies (QuicKutz/WeR). A die from the Long Scalloped Rectangles Nestabilities die set (Spellbinders) was used to die-cut a piece of patterned paper from the Eskimo Kisses 6x6 pad (Bsic Grey).

Green cardstock was die-cut with the Pillow Box Alterations die (Sizzix). Patterned paper from the same pad and scraps from red patterned paper was die-cut with the Poinsettia die (QuicKutz) then shaped with tools. The flowers were stacked with the petals offset, then attached with gold brads. These were placed on the top of the pillow box. A piece of patterned paper from the Eskimo Kisses pad was folded, then die-cut with one of the dies from the Heart Nestabilities die set (Spellbinders). A smaller Scalloped Heart Nestabilities die (Spellbinders) was used to die-cut another scrap from the same pad. The die-cuts were edged with Fired Brick and Spun Sugar Distress ink (Ranger). A scrap of leftover green cardstock was die-cut with the "4" from the Vintage Numbers die (Top Dog Dies). and the "U" from the Vintage Alphabet die (Top Dog Dies).

I assembled the project, now all I need to do is find the Dunkin' Donuts card which is hidden in a safe place a Black Hole.

I Love NY! Steampunk Style!

I was feeling in a Steampunk kind of mood and I felt like coloring, so I decided to make a scrapbooky kind of page for my art journal featuring SCACD's Steampunk Beauty, who is now available in beautiful deeply-etched red rubber format as a single image or part of the newly released Eclectic Steampunk Collection!

I don't know about you, but I like to give my stamped images back stories. Steampunk Beauty is a professional travel photographer from Manhattan. She's continually astounded by the changes in her city and has photographed many of them for publication. She's gathered several of them here and pulled them together with a small self-portrait she painted just for her scrapbook.

Steampunk Beauty was resized in PhotoElements, printed onto Neenah cardstock using my laser printer, then colored with Copic markers. The image panel was die-cut with a Petite Oval Nestabilities die by Spellbinders. Gold metallic cardstock was die-cut with a Petite Scalloped Oval Nestabilities die.

The journal page was liberated from the journal, then was airbrushed with Copic markers. Public domain photos of New York were reduced then printed out with my laser printer. They were arranged on the page.

Metallic gold cardstock was die-cut with the Skeleton Boy and Girl die by Ellentina, the Vintage Alphabet die by Top Dog Dies, a Photo Corners die by QuicKutz, a Mini-Gears die, and the Delicate Chain die by Memory Box/Poppy Stamps.

The chains from the Skeleton Boy and Girl die were cut out and used to both connect the photos and repeat the chain element in the Steampunk Beauty image. The alphabet dies and a punched heart spell out the title of page. The Delicate Chain connects the dimensional pocket watch charm on the heart with the photos above it.

The Mini Gear die-cuts were stacked atop the Photo Corners die-cuts to finish the page.

Another Day, another Wall Hanging!

Carol is the hostess this week at Stampotique Designers Challenge blog and her challenge is "Early Halloween. Get your spook on! Here's what she has to say about her challenge!

I love Halloween and as a crafter it can never start early enough. So for the challenge this week I am sneaking it in a week early. So I hope you have fun getting and early Spook on.

I'm in the process of reorganizing my craft room, though it will be a while before it's complete. As such, I guess that I'll be changing out the stuff that's currently hanging on my walls since I've just done two wall hanging thingies in a week.

Here's my wall hanging thingy that uses Stampotique's Angel (Daniel Torrente).

 

I started the project by tracing the outlines of one of the skulls from the Skullduggery stencil by Andy Skinner/Tando Creative onto 140 lb. Mixed Media cardstock by Strathmore. Using my Stampa-ma-jig stamp positioner, I lined up Angel where I wanted her, then stamped her using Tuxedo Black Memento ink. I messed up because I wanted her standing in the eyes and nose openings of the skull, but such is life. I colored her with my Copic markers and tried to give her hair and outfit a fiery look. A Copic Multiliner was used to strenthen the traced lines and the skull was colored and shaded with Copic markers.

The Flames stencil by the Crafter's Workshop was placed over the skull then I used my Copic markers to carefully trace the flames were I wanted them, which was behind Angel and the skull. The stencil was lifted and I colored the flames with Copic markers, which were also used to add the background. A variety of Distress inks were sponged over the outside edges towards the inside to deepen the color and a touch of warmth (pun intended) to the background. Black Soot Distress ink was used to edge the piece and to add a sooty look to the flames.

A piece of black chipboard was cut to 5" x 7". Spellbinders' Ironworks Accents border die, Flourish Trim die, and my Wesley Border die by Top Dog Dies were used to die-cut black cardstock. The Ironworks Accents border and Wesley Border die-cuts were adhered to either side of the chipboard panel, then the panel was painted with Black Ice Silks Glaze, which was also used to paint the Flourish Trim die-cut. The Black Ice Silks Glaze added a nice rich black sparkle. The die-cuts all received a nice brushing of Onyxite, Rose Quartz, and Florentine Treasure Gold by PaperArtsy.

The image panel was adhered, then the painted Flourish Trim die-cut was added to to the top of the piece. The skull of a skull cameo was painted with Titanium White Media Fluid Acrylic paint, then adhered to a brass cabochon, which was brushed with Treasure Gold. The skull cameo was adhered to the center of the Flourish Trim die-cut.

I poked holes in both sides of the piece and stuck very old Karen Foster brads through the apertures. I should note that I changed the color of the pewter brads using a Prismacolor marker and Treasure Gold. Jump rings were used to attach the brads and chain. The color of the brass chain was not quite right, so I also brushed it with Treasure Gold so that it, the cabochon, and the border die-cuts would be all matchy-matchy.
