It's Time to Celebrate!

I know it's not Tuesday, but I'm sharing a card today created for Topflight Stamps because one of my teammates swapped days with me. This week my teammates and I are sharing projects created with the wonderful products by That's Crafty!

It's fairly well known that I love all things Steampunk, ranging from fiction to the aesthetic. So, when That's Crafty released several Steampunk-themed clear stamp sets designed by Kelly Horton, I had to have most of them, especially since several of the stamp sets also had skulls, cats, and owls, which are a few of my favorite things!

Here's my card using two of the gorgeous ladies from That's Crafty's Steampunk Darlings, Set 1 by That's Crafty, one of the cats from the Steampunk Darlings Accessories Set 2, and a sentiment from Darkroom Door's Celebrate Sentiment Strip Red Rubber Cling Stamp.

Instructions:
  1. Cut a piece of 12x12 Teal Cardstock in half. Reserve one piece. Score the other at 6" and fold to form a 6" square card.
  2. Use Tuxedo Black Memento ink to stamp the Skull Cane Darling and the Owl Darling from  the Steampunk Darlings, Set 1 by That's Crafty.
  3. Use the same ink to stamp one of the cats from the Steampunk Darlings Accessories Set 2.
  4. Fussy-cut all the images, color them with Copic markers, then edge all three with a black pen.
  5. Apply Clear Stardust Glitter Gel pen to the hair jewelry on the owl girl.
  6. When the gel ink is dry, apply several layers of Clear Glaze Gel pen to add glossy dimension and shine to them.
  7. Use Gold or Silver Stardust Glitter Gel pen to add sparkle to the buckles and the center of the cat's medallion.
  8. Set all both Darlings and the cat aside to work on the background. Don't worry. They'll keep each other amused.
  9. I found some wonderful Industrial-themed patterned paper by Studio Light in my stash and chose the brick and pipes paper to use as a background.
  10. Warm and Tonic Grey Copic markers were used to add some detail and shadows to the brick, then the piece was edged with Pumice Stone Distress ink.
  11. A strip of rusty rivets from another patterned paper pad was cut, then edged with Cracked Pistachio Distress Ink.
  12. This strip was adhered to the bottom of the brick and pipe paper to ground the images.
  13. The Time Machine 5 (3 Industrial Lights) die and one of the gears from the Gearheads Thinlits die set were used to cut white cardstock.
  14. The light and the gear die-cuts were colored with Copic markers.
  15.  A Nestabilities circle die was used to cut white cardstock.
  16. The die-cut was colored with Copic markers, then the clock rub-on was applied.
  17. Post-It Notes were used to cover the sentiments that I did not want to use on the Celebrate Sentiment Strip stamp.
  18. The stamp was inked, and the notes were discarded, the sentiment was stamped onto white cardstock, then die-cut with a tiny unlabeled rectangle die.
  19. White cardstock was cut slightly larger than the sentiment rectangle.
  20. Both the sentiment rectangle and its mat were colored with Copic markers.
  21. A Chain Die and the Nuts and Bolts Die were used to cut silver metallic cardstock.
  22. The patterned paper card front was adhere to the 6" card.
  23. The two Darlings, the cat, the light fixture, and the circle/gear clock were adhered to the card front.
  24. The sentiment was matted then adhered to finish the card.
*The cat was colored to look like my Domino, who is the long haired cat of my duo. His sister, Harley Quinn, is a short-haired kitty and half his size (but ripped). Her dark headpiece is darker than her brothers and her tail features faint tabby striping.

**Truth be told, I could have used a brick stencil from my stash and then used Pipe dies or chipboard (both in my stash). Alternately, I could have applied texture paste through a pipeworks stencil onto the brick stenciled background. I did contemplate this option, but decided I would use those techniques another time.

Thanks for visiting today!

I shall enter this card into the following challenges:

  5. Spread the metal spiral binding of the notebook apart and pull out the front and back covers.

  9. Ink the diamond plate part of the Quest Texture stamp with VersaMark ink and stamp the clear areas of the notebook.
  10. Sprinkle Aged Silver and/or Bronze Embossing Powder onto the wet ink, dump the excess, and heat set.
  11. Repeat step 10 as needed to completely the coverage.
  12. Use a VersaMarker to add dots and dashes to any open areas of the cover and heat emboss with any of the three colors of embossing enamel.
  13. Use Roxy Mini and Roxy Mini Shadow to cut black cardstock for the title.
  14. Repeat step #13 three times, then glue three levels of each letter together to make it dimensional. Let them dry.
  15. When the letters are dry, press each Roxy Mini letter onto the VersaMark pad, put the letter into the Aged Bronze Frantage Embossing Enamel Jar, shake off the excess, and heat set.
  16. Press each Roxy Mini Shadow letter onto the VersaMark pad, put the letter into the Aged Silver Frantage Embossing Enamel Jar, shake off the excess, and heat set.
  17. Use glue to adhere each Bronze-embossed Roxy Mini Letter to each Silver-embossed Roxy Mini Shadow letter. Let dry.
  18. When dry, use strong glue or heavy duty gel medium to adhere the title letters as shown.
  19. Using the Frame Chain Circle die, cut black cardstock three times, then use glue to adhere to create a dimensional Frame Chain Circle. Let dry.
  20. Using the Chain die, cut black cardstock three times, then use glue to adhere the layers together. Let dry.
  21. When both the Frame Chain Circle and Chain die-cuts are dry, press them into a VersaMark pad, then sprinkle with the Aged Brass Frantage embossing enamel. Dump off the excess and heat set.
  22. Use foam adhesive squares and glue to adhere the Steampunk Skull to the Frame Chain Circle, then adhere to the front of the notebook as shown.
  23. Use glue to adhere to chain to bottom of the notebook as shown. Let dry, preferably overnight.
  24. Place the Cling Crackle 6x6 Stamp face up on your work surface. ink the stamp with the Warm Breeze VersaFine Clair ink and press the back cover onto the stamp. Carefully smooth your hands over the cover to get a good impression.
  25. Remove the cover from the stamp, flip over, sprinkle on Teal Frantage Embossing Enamel, dump the excess, and heat set.
  26. Repeat Steps 9-12 to complete the back cover.
  27. Replace the covers to the notebook and close the spiral binding.
The Frantage Embossing Enamels added such great texture and shine. I really wish you could see it up close!

Take Me to the Ocean Canvas

It's Tuesday, so it's time to share a project created for Topflight Stamps! If you've visited my blog before, you probably know that I love all things Steampunk. So when I saw Stamperia's wonderful new Sea World Collection, I knew that I had to have it! Also if you've visited before, you know that my projects sometimes take on a life of their own. This is one of those type projects, which was also one of those that came thisclose to being binned because I was not happy with the initial coloring. I fixed it, but then couldn't bear to trim the image panel very much and couldn't fit the sentiment (don't you want to go to the ocean too right now?), so the card became a mixed media canvas.

Here it is!

Instructions: If I were you, I'd get myself a big cup of coffee. Or wine. Or a margarita. Or all of them.

  1. Cut a piece of Cryogen White cardstock in half.
  2. Using Tuxedo Black Memento ink stamp the image onto Cryogen White cardstock to create the image panel.
  3. Stamp again onto Removal Labels, fussy cut, and adhere atop the counterpart on the image panel to mask the image.
  4. Sponge Peacock Feathers, Salty Ocean, and Mermaid Lagoon to cover the entire image panel.
  5. Spritz lightly with water. Heat set.
  6. Place the image panel onto the STAY-tion, position the Sea World stencil as desired, secure it with magnets, and sponge Hickory Smoke and Rusty Hinge Distress ink over the stencil.
  7. Lift the stencil but keep the image panel on the STAY-tion for now.
  8. Sponge the same colors of ink over the the Metal Grid Background Dinky stencil where desired.
  9. Place torn scrap paper horizontally at the bottom of the image panel where the Sea World piping ends.
  10. Sponge Desert Sand and Toffee Crunch over the torn paper to form a sandy ocean floor.
  11. Lift the torn paper, position the Moving Vines Stencil as desired along the right side. Sponge New Sprout ink over the stencil. Remove and clean the stencil, dry it, flip it, and position the vines along the left edge. Sponge New Sprout ink over the stencil. Remove the image panel from the STAY-tion.
  12. Use Bamboo Leaves Memento ink to stamp the ocean plant stamp from the Dare to Swim stamp set over the vines as shown.
  13. Use Nocturne VersaFine Clair ink to stamp the fish group from the Dare to Swim stamp set as shown.
  14. Remove the mask over the Octopus and color the image with Copic markers.
  15. Use Copic markers to color over the stenciled pipes, the stenciled vines, and to color the leaves of the sea plants.
  16. Add several layers of Glaze gel pen to the bubbles, mask, and the other glass elements of the image, letting each layer dry before adding a new layer.
  17. Set aside the image panel for now.
  18. Coat an 8x10 canvas panel with Black Media Gesso. Let dry.
  19. Using Steampunk dies (I listed the ones I used above), cut black cardstock.
  20. Use Media Matte Medium to adhere the die cuts to the gessoed canvas. Coat with a good layer or two of Media Matte Medium, and heat set.
  21. Do a really bad job cutting the compass die cut at the top left. Use 3D Embossing Gel and Mini Art Stones to camouflage your mistake and add them in two more places. Heat set and allow to the gel medium to bubble if it wants too. It'll just add more texture. Texture is good.
  22. Spray the canvas with a variety of Moon Shadow Mists, heat setting every now and then.
  23. Use the Magicals Shakers with a water and a brush to add more color as desired. Heat set.
  24. Use a poofy brush to add metallic and/or opalescent (sp?) Prima waxes to the raised bits on the canvas. Notice how nice they smell. Get bummed out because one of them went bad and is a funky color. Toss it. Oh well.
  25. Heat set the image panel again because why not?
  26. Stamp the sentiment onto black cardstock with VersaMark ink. Heat emboss with Brass embossing powder.
  27. Use one of the squares from the Nestabilities die set to cut the sentiment. Run the edge of the die-cut on the VersaMark ink pad, then heat emboss with Brass embossing powder.
  28. Use the next largest square from the same die set to cut black cardstock. Smoosh the die-cut into the VersaMark pad, then heat emboss with Brass embossing powder.
  29. Mat the sentiment onto the larger embossed square.
  30. Mat the image panel with black cardstock cut 1/4" larger than the image panel.
  31. Adhere the image panel as shown.
  32. Add the sentiment to the canvas and say "Yahoo!".

It's Tuesday, so I'm sharing a post over at Topflight Stamps. Not only is it Tuesday. it's Mardi Gras, aka Fat Tuesday. 3. Fussy-cut the label versions and place them over their counterparts on the image panel.

  6. Use the magnets to secure the stencil over the blue-sponged image panel.

  8. Move the ruler so that it's covering the top part of the image and sponge Thundercloud ink over the base of the image panel.
