Heart Card

It's Tuesday which is my day to share a project created for Topflight Stamps. This week's theme over at the Topflight Stamps blog is "Anything Goes".  I've made a card that is heart themed, but not especially Valentine-y with PaperArtsy's Eclectica EDY01 Cling Rubber Stamp Set by DarcyInk and the Dog Mini 124 Rubber Cling Mounted Stamp, and two colors of Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylic Paints.

Here it is!

  5. Place the Ink and the Dog Mini 124 Rubber Cling Mounted Stamp onto an acrylic mount.
  6. Ink the stamp with Pink Petunia VersaMagic ink and stamp onto the painted panel.
  7. Repeat Step 6 until the panel is mostly stamped. Heat set.
  8. Use magnets to secure the stamped painted panel to the base of a stamping platform.
  9. Position the heart border from the Eclectica EDY01 Cling Rubber Stamp Set by Darcy facedown at the top of the image panel.
  10. Ink the stamp with Nocturne VersaFine Clair Ink and stamp the border. Heat set.
  11. With the border stamp still in place on the platform's lid, rotate the image panel 180° so that the stamped top of the image panel is now secured at the base of the platform.
  12. Re-ink the stamp and stamp the border again. Heat set.
  13. Remove the border stamp from the platform's lid.
  14. Move the image panel 1" to the right keeping it flush with the base of the stamping platform. Secure it with magnets.
  15. Position the zipper heart stamp from the Eclectica EDY01 Cling Rubber Stamp Set by Darcy on the platform's lid so that it will be centered on the image panel.
  16. Ink the stamp with Nocturne VersaFine Clair Ink and stamp the heart onto the image panel. Heat set.
  17. Place repositionable label paper over the image panel, re-ink the stamp, and stamp.
  18. Remove both the image panel and the label paper.
  19. Fussy-cut the label paper version to be used as a mask.
  20. Heat set the image panel.
  21. Use Watercolor markers to color the images.
  22. Use White colored pencil was used to add highlights to the hearts.
  23. Use Silver Uni-Posca Paint pen to color the zipper.
  24. Use Spectrum Noir Clear Sparkle Glitter Brush Pens - Clear Overlay to add a touch of sparkle to the gemstone hanging from the focal heart.
  25. Apply Red Geranium Zig pen to your craft sheet, mist your finger with water, and use it to edge the image panel. Repeat until the entire piece is edged.
  26. Place the fussy-cut mask over the heart. Tap Black and silver paint pens to splatter the image panel.
  27. Use Nocturne VersaFine Clair Ink to edge the image panel. Heat set the entire panel, concentrating on the edge.
  28. Adhere the image panel to the reserved A7 black card.
Notes:
  • VersaMagic is a chalk pigment ink by Imagine Crafts. I wanted to see how it would look stamped onto a Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylic Paint background. I was really happy with the result!
  • While coloring the images with one of the red watercolor markers, I had a bit of a happy accident. I inadvertently got a red fingerprint on the image panel, decided it looked cool, then used a wet finger and the red marker to edge the image panel.

Be Bold Wall Hanging

I know it's not Tuesday but I'm going to share another project created for Topflight Stamps. I've been really inspired by Darkroom Door's Be Bold Red Rubber Cling Stamp Set and Sweary Affirmations Sentiment Strip Red Rubber Cling Stamp.  Actually, when I first saw these stamps, I immediately thought of creating a wall-hanging using these fabulous stamp sets with leather-look and brushed silver metallic specialty papers that I had in my stash. I also knew that I had silver (and gold) spiky embellishments and barbed wire cutting dies.

Here it is!

Angled photo to show the silvery spikes and metallic paper.

  1. Using Nocturne VersaFine Clair Ink and a stamping platform, stamp the leather-clad sunglasses woman from the Be Bold Red Rubber Cling Stamp Set onto Mixed Media paper. Re-ink and re-stamp a few times to get a good impression. The image panel was thoroughly heat set.
  2. Use Tattered Rose, Milled Lavender, Blueprint Sketch, and Mermaid Lagoon Distress inks and markers to color the woman's face, hands, and hair. Heat set the image again just because it's better to be safe than smudgy.
  3. Stamp the image again onto repositionable label paper, fussy-cut it, and place it over the woman on the image panel as a mask.
  4. Use magnets to secure the image panel to the STAY-tion.
  5. Brush Blueprint Sketch Distress ink up from the bottom of the image panel.
  6. Brush Mermaid Lagoon Distress ink from the top downwards.
  7. Brush both colors to soften the blend line. Heat set.
  8. Ink the Torn Text Texture Red Rubber Cling Stamp with Mermaid Lagoon Distress Ink, stamp onto a piece of scrap, then stamp over the turquoise inked part of the image panel.
  9. Ink the Torn Text Texture Red Rubber Cling Stamp with Blueprint Sketch Distress ink, stamp off onto scrap paper, then stamp onto the blue portion of the image panel. Heat set.
  10. Use a stamping platform and Shimmery Silver Delicata ink to stamp the sentiments from the Be Bold Red Rubber Cling Stamp Set and Sweary Affirmations Sentiment Strip Red Rubber Cling Stamp onto the leather specialty paper.
  11. Cover the wet ink with Detail Silver Embossing Powder, dump off the excess, and heat set.
  12. Using Stick-It, adhere the black leather specialty paper to black cardstock.*
  13. Use stitched and plain rectangle dies to cut the Sweary Affirmations sentiments.
  14. Cut the Be Bold and Be You sentiments from the Be Bold Red Rubber Cling Stamp Set with a tag die, which yielded two square die-cuts.
  15. Cut Brushed Silver Metallic specialty paper with the same tag die to get the stitched frames.
  16. Cut black leather specialty paper twice with an ancient border die and with the rectangular frame die.
  17. Apply sturdy two-sided tape to the back of the silver metallic specialty paper.
  18. Cut brushed silver metallic specialty paper with the barbed wire dies.
  19. Adhere the barbed wire die-cuts to the frame.
  20. Adhere the frame over the image panel to frame the image.
  21. Adhere two pieces of black cardstock together, then adhere silver cardstock to the two-ply cardstock to create a sturdy base for the wall hanging.
  22. Trim a piece of textured black leather paper and adhere to the silver base created in Step 21.
  23. Adhere the framed image panel, the two titles, and the sentiment die-cuts to the textured black leather paper.
  24. Adhere the two border strips to either side.
  25. Adhere the spikes to cover the holes in the borders.
Notes:
  • The non-textured leather cardstock is thin, so adhering it to black cardstock makes it easier to die-cut, trim, etc.
  • Using a Sookwang tape or another strong two-sided adhesive tapes to back thin paper makes it easier to cut and adhere die-cuts.

You're Totally Badass

I know it's not Tuesday but I'm going to share a card created for created for Topflight Stamps. When I saw the Be Bold Red Rubber Cling Stamp Set and Sweary Affirmations Sentiment Strip Red Rubber Cling Stamp by Darkroom Door, both sets really resonated with me. The women in the Be Bold Red Rubber Cling Stamp Set look tough and strong. I loved the Sweary Affirmations Sentiment Strip Red Rubber Cling Stamp because I tend to be a bit very sweary. I thought both sets together would make wonderful affirmation and encouragement cards for the young women in my life.

Whereas my normal inclination would be to stamp and watercolor the graphic stamps in the Be Bold Red Rubber Cling Stamp Set, I decided to try the "no lines" technique using my Copic markers.

Here it is!

Instructions:
  1. Cut a piece of Raven cardstock to 8.5" x 5.5". Score at 4.25" and fold to form an A2 card. Set aside.
  2. Use Lulu Lavender Memento ink to stamp one of the women from the Be Bold Red Rubber Cling Stamp Set.
  3. Use Copic markers to color the image.
  4. Use colored pencils to add some dimension and color to her hair.
  5. Scribble a pink chalk pencil onto paper and use a pointy cotton swab to pick up the chalk and add blush to her cheeks.
  6. Use a white gel pen to add highlights to her eyes and lip, and a gold gel pen was used to add the earrings which had gotten lost during the coloring process.
  7. Remove the wings of the brad, paint the bat with Gold Posca Paint pen, heat set, then adhere the bejeweled bat onto her choker.
  8. Cut Raven cardstock with the ornate frame die then use the die-cut to frame the image.
  9. Using a stamping platform, Use Nocturne VersaFine Clair Ink by Imagine Crafts to stamp the sentiment from the Sweary Affirmations Sentiment Strip Red Rubber Cling Stamp onto a piece of Ink Drops Candy 6x6 Pattered Paper Pad.
  10. Keeping the panel and stamp in place on the platform, ink the sentiment stamp with Golden Dazzle Delicata.
  11. Ink the stamp another time with Nocturne VersaFine Clair Ink and overstamp yet again.
  12. Remove the sentiment stamped patterned paper panel from the stamping platform and heat set the ink.
  13. Trim the sentiment stamped patterned paper panel to 4" x 5.25".
  14. Use Golden Dazzle Delicata ink to edge both the framed colored image and the sentiment stamped patterned paper panel. Heat set.
  15. Adhere the sentiment panel to the reserved card.
  16. Adhere the image panel to the card front.
Notes:
  • I first tried to use ink that a lot of people use for "no-lines" coloring, but it was too dark for the image.
  • I tried using Angel Pink Memento ink, but the flesh tones became weird.
  • I ending up using the Lulu Lavender Memento ink to stamp the image because I usually use a BV marker to add shading to my Copic colored images. It worked-ish.
Thanks for visiting today! See you soon!

Happy Valentine's Day

It's Tuesday which is my day to share a project created for Topflight Stamps. This week's theme over at the Topflight Stamps blog is "Anything Goes".  I'm stuck on Valentine's Day and have created two cards for the holiday using my new Arty Hearts Collage Red Rubber Cling Stamp and Arty Hearts Collage Small Stencil by Darkroom Door

Here are the cards!

Topflight Stamps Products Used:
Arty Hearts Collage Red Rubber Cling Stamp by Darkroom Door
Classic Sentiments Clear Stamp Set by Heffy Doodle
Emperor Red, Paprika, and Confetti Elements Inks by Lavinia Stamps
140 lb. Mixed Media Paper by Strathmore
Raven and Red Cardstock by Bazzill Basics Paper Company

Black Soot Distress Ink by Tim Holtz for Ranger Ink
Tag/Label Die by Spellbinders
STAY-tion™ by Wendy Vecchi for Ranger Ink
Stamping Platform
Baby Wipe
Paper Towels

Notes:
These cards are a bit of a departure for me as there's no coloring, no masking, and no fussy-cutting.

The Arty Hearts Collage Red Rubber Cling Stamp was stamped with Nocturne VersaFine Clair Ink for both cards since it yields a rich dark black and handles fine detailed stamps beautifully.

Instructions for the top (red) card:
  1. Cut a piece of red cardstock and a piece of kraft cardstock to 8.5" x 5.5". Score at 4.25" and fold to form two cards. Set aside.
  2. Starting at the top of a panel of 140 lb. Mixed Media cardstock, brush Confetti Elements Ink horizontally across the panel. Work your way about 2/3 down.
  3. Brush Emperor Red Elements Inks horizontally across and down until the panel is completely inked.
  4. Use a baby wipe to blend the colors on the panel and heat set.
  5. Mist the panel with water and heat set.
  6. Use a stamping platform and Nocturne VersaFine Clair Ink to stamp the Arty Hearts Collage Red Rubber Cling Stamp onto the inked background. Re-ink the stamp and stamp again if needed for a good image.
  7. Heat set.
  8. Use a paint brush and water to wet the ink on each of the hearts. Use a paper towel to dab the heart and remove the diluted ink. Heat set the panel.
  9. Place the panel onto the STAY-tion.
  10. Place the coordinating Arty Hearts Collage Small Stencil over the panel with the hearts on the stencil lined up with the stamped hearts on the image panel. Secure with magnets.
  11. Sprinkle Raspberry Infusions and the  Crimson and Brilliant Red Brusho Crystal Colors onto a paint palette or a craft mat. Spray with water to dilute.
  12. Smoosh the Pink JellybeanDusty Rose, and Red Brick Prism Inks and Emperor Red and Confetti Elements Inks onto a craft mat and mist with water.
  13. Use a paint brush to paint the hearts with the diluted inks created in Steps #10 and 11.
  14. When finished painting the hearts, heat set the panel.
  15. Trim the panel, edge with Black Soot Distress ink, mat with Black cardstock, and adhere to the reserved red A2 card.d
  16. Use a stamping platform and Nocturne VersaFine Clair Ink to stamp the "Happy Valentine's Day" sentiment from the Classic Sentiments Clear Stamp Set onto a left over piece of inked cardstock. Heat set.
  17. Use a labels die to cut the sentiment, edge it with black ink, and adhere to the top of the card as shown.
Instructions for the bottom (kraft) card, which was really quick to create.
  1. Using a stamping platform and Nocturne VersaFine Clair Ink. stamp the Arty Hearts Collage Red Rubber Cling Stamp onto a panel of kraft cardstock. Heat set.
  2. Place the coordinating Arty Hearts Collage Small Stencil over the panel with the hearts on the stencil lined up with the stamped hearts on the image panel. Secure with magnets.
  3. Smoosh Dusky RoseRed BrickRed ChiliSmoked Paprika, and Cherry Walnut Prism Inks and Emperor Red and Paprika Elements Inks onto a craft mat and mist with water.
  4. Use a paint brush to paint the hearts with the diluted inks created in Step #4.
  5.  Sadly, a some ink seeped under the stencil, so I brushed the Emperor Red and Paprika Elements Inks across the panel to camouflage my mistake.
  6. Trim the panel and edge it with Emperor Red Elements Ink.
  7. Place the Herringbone Texture Red Rubber Cling Stamp facedown onto the stamping platform so that the right edge of the stamp is at the 8.5" mark.
  8. Press the lid of the platform onto the back of the stamp and lift.
  9. Use magnets to secure a second panel of kraft cardstock to the base of the stamping platform.
  10. Use Emperor Red Elements Ink to ink the Herringbone Texture Red Rubber Cling Stamp and stamp.
  11. Move the stamped kraft cardstock approximately 3.25" to the right (the length of the stamp). The panel will be hanging off of the platform, but it's copacetic.
  12. Re-ink the stamp with Emperor Red Elements Ink and stamp.
  13. Flip the stamped kraft panel to repeat Steps #9 - 12.
  14. Remove the stamp from the platform and clean.
  15. Remove the panel from the platform, trim to 4" x 5.25", and edge with Emperor Red Elements Ink.
  16. Adhere the herringbone stamped panel to the reserved kraft card.
  17. Adhere the image panel to finish the card.

  • Memento inks were used because I was planning on coloring the grass with my Copic markers. I also considered adding the third image from the Valentine Voodoo Rubber Cling Stamp Set, which is a stack of hearts which I would have wanted to coloring.
  • When doing the repeat stencil, you can offset the clouds by moving the stencil, rotating it, or flipping it.
