All Geared Up to Celebrate

Greetings! It's Topflight Stamps Tuesday! This is an "Anything Goes" week, so I decided to try a new technique and to use some of my new stamps!

Stamping Platform

Instructions:
  1. Create a 6" square card from black textured cardstock. Set aside.
  2. Cut a piece of 9" x 12" Mixed Media paper in half and place it onto a craft mat.
  3. Use a small spatula to place a  pile of Yesteryear Yellow Magical Powder from the Steampunk Soiree Magical Pigment Powder Set onto the craft mat. 
  4. Fold a baby wipe and press the top part of it into the pigment powder. 
  5. Drag the baby wipe vertically on the Mixed Media paper, working from the outside edges towards the center.*
  6. Dip the wipe into the powder and apply it again. Continue until the powder pile is gone. 
  7. Clean your craft mat.
  8. Place a small pile of Apothecary Azure Magical Powder from the Steampunk Soiree Magical Pigment Powder Set onto the craft mat. 
  9. Use a clean baby wipe to repeat the process described above. The pigment powder colors will begin to blend. 
  10. When the powder is gone, clean your mat.
  11. Place a small pile of Pocket Watch Pewter Magical Powder onto the craft mat.
  12. Use a clean baby wipe to add additional color to your background. 
  13. When done with the powder, clean your craft mat, then heat set the background panel. *
  14. Place the background panel onto a magnetic craft mat.
  15. Place the Steamheart Gears Stencil PC-270 over the background panel and secure with low-tack tape and/or magnets.
  16. Brush or sponge Graphite Elements Premium Dye Ink over the stencil onto the background panel to enhance the background panel.
  17. When done, trim the background panel to 5 5/8" square and edge it with Nocturne VersaFine Clair Ink,
  18. Use stipple brushes to apply specks of Mango Madness, Pumpkin Spice, Turquoise Gem, Night Sky VersaMagic Ink to the background. *
  19. Heat set the panel and set it aside. 
  20. Use Tuxedo Black Memento Ink to stamp the cat and the dog from the Precision Paws Clear Stamp Set 1373 onto white Copic-friendly cardstock. 
  21. Use the same ink to stamp the Time Tinkerer from the Time Tinkerer Clear Stamp Set 1374 onto white cardstock. 
  22. Fussy-cut all three images.
  23. Use Copic markers to color all three images, then edge them with a black marker. 
  24. Use a White Gelly Roll Gel Pen to add highlights to the Time Tinkerer's eyes.
  25. Use a white colored pencil or a white watercolor pencil to add highlights to the cat's eyes (I wanted them to be fainter as his eyes are covered by glasses) and to the watchface. Set the characters aside.
  26. Use low-tack tape and/or magnets to secure the piece of mixed media paper left over from Step 17 onto the base of a stamping platform.
  27. Place all three sentiment stamps from the Precision Paws Clear Stamp Set 1373  facedown onto the piece of mixed media paper.
  28. Press the platform's lid onto the back of the stamp and lift.
  29. Ink the sentiments with  Nocturne VersaFine Clair Ink and stamp. Re-ink and stamp again if needed to attain a good impression. 
  30. Remove the stamped paper from the stamping platform. 
  31. Add clear detail embossing powder to the wet ink, dump the excess powder back into its container, and heat set the powder. 
  32. Use sentiment strip dies to cut the three sentiments, trim them, and edge them with the Nocturne VersaFine Clair Ink.
  33. Adhere the three sentiments to the reserved 5 5/8" square background panel.
  34. Adhere the dog, cat, and the Time Tinkerer atop the sentiments as shown to create the card front.
  35. Cut a piece of copper metallic cardstock to 5.75" square and use it to mat the card front. 
  36. Back a small piece of the copper metallic cardstock with double-sided tape.
  37. Use a sentiment die from the Like Clockwork Frame Moonstone Die Set to cut copper metallic cardstock. 
  38. Adhere the sentiment as shown. 
  39. Adhere the card front to the reserved 6" square black card.
Notes:
  • I discovered the baby wipe/pigment powder technique on Instagram. Here's a link to the reel by @artful.layers .
  • True confessions. My baby wipes were almost completely dry, so I misted them with water, then used the damp wipes to drag the powders. I was quite pleased with the results.
  • I plan on experimenting further with this technique to see if it works better with moist baby wipes and with other pigment powders. 
  • VersaMagic Inks are chalk-finish pigment inks. Stippling them adds opaque matte speckles, which work well with metallics.

Instructions:
  1. Create a 5" x 7" card from London Fog Textured cardstock. Set aside.
  2. Use Tuxedo Black Memento Ink to stamp both the Alfred Hitchcock Standing image and Mini Gnome Santa with Toys from the Mini Gnomes 2 image onto a piece of white Neenah cardstock.
  3. Fussy-cut both images, but cut the Santa hat off of the gnome's head. 
  4. Use Copic markers to color both images, then outline them with a black marker.
  5. Add wet glue to the brim and pom-pom on the Santa hat, add Cotton Ball White Fun Flock, gently press the Fun Flock, and allow it to dry.
  6. Once dry, brush off the excess flock.
  7. Adhere the Santa hat to Alfred's head and set Santa Alfred aside for a few mintues while you create a background for him.
  8. Trim a piece of winter-themed patterned paper to 5.25" x 6". 
  9. Use Tea Dye and Vintage Photo Distress Inks to edge it. 
  10. Cut a piece of white cardstock to 5.25" x 6.75" 
  11. Add Film Strip Washi Tape to the base of the white cardstock. 
  12. Adhere the winter-themed patterned paper just above the Washi Tape to create the background panel. 
  13. Trim the patterned paper/Washi combo to 4 5/8" x 6 5/8" and edge it again with Tea Dye and Vintage Photo Distress Inks. 
  14. Cut a piece of red textured cardstock to 4.75" x 6.75" and use to mat the background panel.
  15. Use "Naughty or Nice" die to cut red textured cardstock. 
  16. Use an arrow die to cut red textured  cardstock twice.
  17. Adhere Santa Alfred to the background panel as shown. 
  18. Adhere the "Naughty or Nice" sentiment die-cut to the upper left. 
  19. Measure the arrow die-cuts. 
  20. Adhere the "be good for goodness sake" sticker an arrow's width from the left side. 
  21. Adhere both arrow die-cuts as shown, so that the arrows' points are overlapping the sentiment sticker.
  22. Adhere the background panel to a a taupe-y brown 5" x 7" card.

Instructions:
  1. Create an A2 card from red textured cardstock. Set aside.
  2. Use magnets and/or low-tack tape to secure a piece of Mixed Media paper to the base of a stamping platform.
  3. Position the Santa stamp from the Kate Crane 007 Cling Mounted Stamp Set facedown on the Mixed Media panel.
  4. Press the platform's lid onto the back of the Santa stamp and lift.
  5. Ink the stamp with Tuxedo Black Memento Ink to stamp Santa  twice — once onto the image panel and once onto repositionable sticker paper.
  6. Fussy-cut the sticker paper version and place it over its counterpart on the image panel.
  7. Place the reindeer stamp from the Kate Crane 007 Cling Mounted Stamp Set facedown to the right of Santa. 
  8. Press the platform's lid onto the back of the reindeer stamp and lift.
  9. Ink the stamp with Tuxedo Black Memento Ink to stamp the reindeer twice — once onto the image panel and once onto repositionable sticker paper.
  10. Fussy-cut the sticker paper version and place it over its counterpart on the image panel.
  11. Clean and dry the reindeer stamp. 
  12. Reposition it facedown on Santa's left. 
  13. Press the platform's lid onto the back of the reindeer stamp and lift.
  14. Ink the stamp with Tuxedo Black Memento Ink to stamp reindeer  twice — once onto the image panel and once onto repositionable sticker paper.
  15. Fussy-cut the sticker paper version and place it over its counterpart on the image panel.
  16. Move the image panel to a magnetic craft surface.
  17. Place the flattest of the masks from the Hills Acetate Stencil/Mask Set by horizontally across the image panel and secure with low-tack tape and/or magnets.
  18. Brush or sponge Stormy Sky Distress Ink over the Hills Acetate Mask and the masked images onto the image panel to create a background sky.
  19. Use a C1 Copic marker to trace the top of the Hills Acetate Mask, 
  20. Flip the mask over and move it downwards. Use the C1 marker to trace it again.  
  21. Repeat Step 20 to create more lines of snow on the background. 
  22. Remove the masks from the images and use Copic markers to color them. 
  23. Use a N6 marker to increase the size of the reindeers' pupils then use a White Gelly Roll Gel Pen to add highlights to the pupils and to the reindeers' hooves.
  24. Use a black Glaze pen to color the buttons on Santa's outfit to make them shiny and dimensional.
  25. Place the image panel back onto the base of the stamping platform and secure with magnets and/or low-tack tape.
  26. Place a piece of acetate over the image panel.
  27. Position the "ho, ho, ho!" sentiment stamp from the Kate Crane 007 Cling Mounted Stamp Set facedown on the image panel as shown. 
  28. Press the platform's lid onto the back of the "ho, ho, ho!" sentiment stamp and lift.
  29. Ink the sentiment stamp with Nocturne VersaFine Clair Ink and stamp. Re-ink the stamp if necessary to attain a good impression.
  30. Remove the image panel from the stamping platform and heat set the ink.
  31. Add dots of Bold Stardust Clear Glittering Gelly Roll Gel Ink Pen along the traced snow lines. 
  32. Let the gel ink dry, trim the image panel, and mat with a slightly larger panel of red textured cardstock.
  33. Cut a piece of patterned paper from the A Gingham Christmas 8x8 Patterned Paper Pads to 4" x 5.25" to create the background panel. 
  34. Edge it with a R35 Copic marker and adhere it to the reserved red A2 card. 
  35. Adhere the matted image panel to finish the card.

Do you want to swing on a star?

Greetings! It's Topflight Stamps Tuesday! This week our focus is on the stars! Here's a birthday card inspired by a song created with stamps, inks, and a stencil by Lavinia Stamps. The focal images were stamped with Nocturne VersaFine Clair Ink by Imagine Crafts/Tsukineko and shimmer was added with Scintillating Silver Glitz Spray from the Glitz Spritz Spray Set by Lindy's Stamp Gang.

Instructions:
  1. Create a 5" x 7" card from black textured cardstock. Set aside.
  2. Pounce an anti-static pouch over a 5" x 7" panel of Mixed Media Paper.
  3. Secure the panel to a magnetic craft mat.
  4. Place the large star on a star/moon stencil towards the top of the Mixed Media panel and secure the stencil with magnets.
  5. Apply Frost VersaMark Dazzle Ink over the star opening on the stencil onto the MM panel.
  6. Add detail white embossing powder to the wet ink, dump the excess back into its container, and heat emboss. 
  7. Secure the star on the stencil back over into position on the MM panel.
  8. Re-apply Frost VersaMark Dazzle Ink over the star opening again. 
  9. Add Crystal Embossing Powder to the wet ink, dump the excess back into its container, and heat emboss.
  10. Sponge or brush Dark Denim Elements Premium Dye Ink over the embossed star applying the ink more heavily around the edges of the panel. *
  11. Sponge or brush Blue Lagoon Elements Premium Dye Ink over the panel, blending as you go. 
  12. Thoroughly heat set the panel. 
  13. Use a wet cotton swab to remove the excess ink from the star.
  14. Place the Mixed Media panel onto the base of a stamping platform and secure with magnets and/or low-tack tape.
  15. Use a Post-It Note to cover the bottom parts of the star. 
  16. Position the Swing Clear Polymer Stamp  facedown with the top of the swing's ropes on the Post-It Note covering the base of the star. 
  17. Press the platform's lid onto the back of the stamp and lift.
  18. Ink the Swing stamp with Nocturne VersaFine Clair Ink and stamp. Re-ink and stamp again if needed to attain a good impression.
  19. Position Pris Clear Polymer Stamp by facedown so that her posterior is sitting on the swing and her hands are on the ropes.  
  20. Press the platform's lid onto the back of the stamp and lift.
  21. Ink the Pris stamp with Nocturne VersaFine Clair Ink and stamp. Re-ink and stamp again if needed to attain a good impression. *
  22. Remove the panel from the stamping platform and heat emboss.
  23. Working in small segments, use a water-laden tiny-tipped paintbrush to apply water to the swing seat and ropes. 
  24. Use a tissue or paper towel to dab off the water and bleach the area. 
  25. Smoosh the lid of the Henna Elements Premium Dye Inkpad onto the ink pad.
  26. Use the tiny paintbrush to apply the ink to the seat of the swing. 
  27. Smoosh the lid of the  Sahara Elements Premium Dye Inkpad onto the ink pad.
  28. Use the tiny paintbrush to apply the ink to the swing's ropes. 
  29. Use watercolor pens to correct the color if you'd like. I did.
  30. Use a white chalk pencil to add small highlights to Pris.
  31. Place the panel onto a magnetic mat.
  32. Position the Dynamic Stencil over the image panel and secure with magnets. 
  33. Sponge or brush Blue Lagoon Elements Premium Dye Ink over the stencil onto the image panel avoiding Pris and the Swing.
  34. Use Dark Denim Elements Premium Dye Ink to randomly stamp the treble clef from the Musical Notes Large Clear Polymer Stamp Set around the image panel. 
  35. Use the same ink to randomly stamp a variety of notes from the Musical Notes Small Clear Polymer Stamp Set  as well.
  36. Spray Scintillating Silver Glitz Spray from the Glitz Spritz Spray Set over the panel. Dab off the big blobs and heat set. 
  37. Repeat Steps 32 and 33 if you'd like. *
  38. Trim the image panel  to 4.75" x 6.75", edge with Dark Denim Elements Premium Dye Ink, and adhere it to the reserved 5" x 7" black card.
  39. Edge the sentiment stickers with a black pen. 
  40. My stickers are on the old side so I adhered them with the Quickie Glue Pin Point Roller Pen by Sakura.
  41. Pounce the anti-static pouch onto a scrap of black cardstock.
  42. Place the scrap of black cardstock onto the base of the stamping platform and secure with magnets.
  43. Place the "Birthday Wishes" sentiment from the Heartfelt Verses Clear Polymer Stamp Set facedown on the black cardstock.
  44. Press the platform's lid onto the back of the stamp and lift.
  45. Ink the "Birthday Wishes" stamp with Frost Dazzle VersaMark Ink and stamp.
  46. Add detail white embossing powder to the wet ink, dump the excess back into its container, and heat emboss. 
  47. Use a cutting die to cut the sentiment and adhere it as shown.
  48. Use a white Posca Paint pen to randomly add white "stars" to the background to finish the card.
Notes:
  • Heat embossed surfaces resist dye inks.
  • My aim was not really great whilst stamping Pris, so I used black Pigma Micron pens to extend the swing's seat so that her bottom would be grounded.
  • I realized that the shimmer mostly obliterated the stenciling, so I re-did repeated the stenciling but you might not be bothered by it.

Waiting for Karma

It's Topflight Stamps Tuesday and an "Anything Goes" week.  I've been in an odd mood so I created an odd card with two of the critters from the Sea Creatures Unmounted Red Rubber Stamp Set KTZ226 by Katzelkraft, a sentiment from the No Regrets Clear Polymer Stamp Set by Visible Image, patterned paper from the Ombre 6x6 Patterned Paper Pad by Craft Consortium Ltd.

Instructions:
  1. Use Tuxedo Black Memento Ink to stamp the worried-looking creature and the pelican from the Sea Creatures Unmounted Red Rubber Stamp Set KTZ226  twice — once onto white cardstock and once onto repositionable sticker paper.
  2. Fussy-cut the sticker versions of the creatures and set them aside to be used as masks.
  3. Use Copic markers to color the creatures.
  4. Place the image panel onto a magnetic craft mat. 
  5. Use magnets to secure a piece of clear acetate horizontally across the image panel right above the bottom of the critters, being sure that the acetate is covering the top of the image panel.
  6. Brush or sponge Bermuda Elements Premium Dye Ink over the acetate onto the bottom part of the image panel so that it's covering the bottom portion of the creatures. 
  7. Brush or sponge Blue Atoll Elements Premium Dye Ink over the acetate to complete their watery background.
  8. Remove the acetate. Clean and dry it. 
  9. Place the sticker paper versions of the critters over their counterparts on the image panel. 
  10. Place the acetate panel so that it's sitting on the horizontal inked line covering the bottom portion of the image panel.
  11. Brush or sponge Della Blue Elements Premium Dye Ink onto the image panel, working horizontally from the top of the panel down to the acetate to create a sky background. 
  12. Brush or sponge Confetti Elements Premium Dye Ink over the image panel to add some pink hues to the sky.
  13. Use an alcohol filled Fine Spray Misters  to mist the background. This will blend and mottle the ink.
  14. Remove the masks and the acetate from the image panel. 
  15. Use a N6 marker to increase the size of the worried-looking critter's pupil. 
  16. Use a white Gelly Roll Gel Pen to add a white highlight to its pupil.
  17. Use magnets to secure the image panel to the base of a stamping platform.
  18. Position the "Karma" sentiment from the No Regrets Clear Polymer Stamp Set so that the it's above the pelican and in the sight line of the critter.
  19. Press the platform's lid onto the back of the stamp and lift.
  20. Ink the "Karma" sentiment with Nocturne VersaFine Clair Ink and stamp. Re-ink and stamp again if needed to attain a good impression.
  21. Trim the image panel and edge with Bermuda and Della Blue Elements Premium Dye Inks.
  22. Select a piece of patterned paper from the Ombre 6x6 Patterned Paper Pad to match the image panel. This will become the background panel.
  23. Adhere the image panel so that it's centered on the patterned paper, then trim the background panel so that there are even borders around it. 
  24. Use Nocturne VersaFine Clair Ink to edge the patterned paper, then adhere the card front to a black card.
Notes in hindsight:
  • I should have positioned the worried-looking creature and the pelican closer to each other.
  • I also should have positioned the sentiment slightly lower so that the image panel would not have been an odd size. Alas. Alack. Whatever.
  • I showed this card to my daughter who remarked that it is indeed very odd, but that it is "on brand" for me. Whatever again.

Happy Father's Day

Greetings! It's Topflight Stamps Tuesday! This week's focus is on Indigo Blu and their wonderful products!

Instructions:
  1. Create an A6 card from white speckled navy cardstock. Set aside.
  2. Use Tuxedo Black Memento Ink to stamp the Steampunk gentleman from the "Weird Is My Normal" Cling Mounted A6 Stamp Set twice — once onto white Copic-friendly cardstock and once onto repositionable sticker paper.
  3. Use Copic markers to color the focal image. 
  4. Place a strip of Bolted Layers Washi Tape 106 under the colored image. 
  5. Fussy-cut the sticker paper version of the Steampunk gentleman and place it over its counterpart on the image panel as a mask.
  6. Place the small rectangle from the Snap Thoughts DI-90 Die Set blades down on the image panel and secure with low-tack tape. 
  7. Run the combination through your die-cut machine. 
  8. Remove the image panel die-cut from the cutting die.
  9.  Brush light grey dye ink over the masked image and onto a scrap of white cardstock. 
  10. Use an Isopropyl Alcohol-filled Fine Spray Mister to spray the image panel die-cut. This will add white speckles to the image panel die-cut and will blend the ink but won't pill the paper.
  11. Remove the mask from the Steampunk gentleman. 
  12. Use a N6 Copic marker to darken his pupils, then use a White Gelly Roll Gel Pen to add catchlights to them. 
  13. Use a fineliner and/or other Copic markers to touch up the image. 
  14. Cut a piece of black cardstock so that it's slightly larger than the image panel die-cut and use this to mat the image panel. Set aside.
  15. Select a piece of patterned paper from the Ink Drops - Midnight 6x6 Patterned Paper Pad to use as a background panel. 
  16. Trim the patterned paper to 4.25" wide. Use a B39 Copic to edge the panel. 
  17. Place the grey-inked cardstock scrap onto the base of a stamping platform and secure with magnets and/or low-tack tape. 
  18. Place the "Happy Father's Day" sentiment stamp from the Classic Sentiments Clear Stamp Set facedown on the scrap. 
  19. Press the platform's lid onto the back of the stamp and lift.
  20. Ink the sentiment stamp with Medieval Blue VersaFine Clair Ink and stamp. 
  21. Re-ink and stamp again if needed to attain a good impression.
  22. Use a sentiment strip cutting die to cut the sentiment. 
  23. Use a Fancy Label Cutting Die and a Steampunk Corner Die to cut gold metallic cardstock.
  24. Adhere the gold metallic Steampunk Corner die-cutss to the upper corners of the background panel.
  25. Adhere the matted image panel as shown.
  26. Adhere the stamped sentiment onto the gold Fancy Label Sentiment die-cut, then adhere the combination to the background panel as shown.
  27. Adhere the completed background panel to the reserved white-speckled navy A6 card.

Fairy Dust

Stamping Platform

Instructions:
  1. Create an A6 card from black textured cardstock. Set aside.
  2. Secure a piece of white cardstock onto the base of a stamping platform.
  3. Position the Faelorn Rest Clear Polymer Stamp facedown towards the bottom of the cardstock.
  4. Press the lid of the platform onto the back of the stamp and lift.
  5. Ink the Faelorn Rest stamp with Tuxedo Black Memento Ink and stamp twice — once onto white Copic-friendly cardstock and once onto repositionable sticker paper. 
  6. Position the Eira Fairy Clear Polymer Stamp facedown on the image panelso that her feet and knee are atop the grass on the Faelorn Rest stump image. 
  7. Press the lid of the platform onto the back of the stamp and lift.
  8. Use Tuxedo Black Memento Ink  to stamp Eira Fairy twice — once onto white Copic-friendly cardstock and once onto repositionable sticker paper. 
  9. Position the flying magpie stamp from the Magpies Clear Polymer Stamp Set facedown so that his beak is close to Eira's outstretched index finger. 
  10. Press the lid of the platform onto the back of the stamp and lift.
  11. Use Tuxedo Black Memento Ink  to stamp the magpie twice — once onto white Copic-friendly cardstock and once onto repositionable sticker paper. 
  12. Use Copic markers to color Faelorn Rest, Eira Fairy, the Magpie, and the lawn.
  13. Use B63 and B41 Copic markers to outline the images.
  14. Fussy-cut the sticker paper versions of Faelorn Rest, Eira Fairy, the Magpie and place them atop their counterparts on the image panel as masks.
  15. Place the image panel onto a magnetic craft surface.
  16. Sponge or brush Della Blue Elements Premium Dye Ink over the masked images to create a background sky on the panel. 
  17. Use an Isopropyl Alcohol-filled Fine Spray Mister by Spectrum Noir to mist the panel to add white speckles and blend the ink. 
  18. Sponge or brush Confetti Elements Premium Dye Ink over the masked image panel to add touches of pink to the sky. 
  19. Secure the image panel to the base of a stamping platform.
  20. Position the Fairy Dust Clear Polymer Sentiment Stamp facedown above Eira Fairy as shown. 
  21. Press the platform's lid onto the back of the stamp and lift.
  22. Ink the sentiment stamp with Nocturne VersaFine Clair Ink and stamp. Re-ink the stamp and stamp again if needed to attain a good impression.
  23. Remove the masks from the images.
  24. Trim the image  panel to 4.25" x 6" and edge with B63 and YG17 Copic markers. 
  25. Use a Bold Stardusgt Clear Glittering Gelly Roll Gel Pen by Sakura to add "fairy dust" between the Magpie's beak and Eira's index finger.
  26. Adhere the image panel to the reserved black A6 card.
