Balance — Like a Flamingo

It's Tuesday so it's time to share a project created for Topflight Stamps. It's an "Anything Goes" theme this week. I decided to use the flamingo from the Two Tropical Birds Unmounted Rubber Stamp Set by Crafty Individuals with the Palm Fronds Stencil by Craft Emotions to make a card. Both companies have gone out of business, but Topflight Stamps still has lots of their products still in stock! I also used the Frayed Frames Die Set 26 by AALL and Create and a sentiment from the Flamazing Clear Stamp Set 617 by Janet Klein for  AALL and Create.

Stamping Platform

Instructions:

1. Create a 5" x 7" card from white cardstock and set aside.
2. Use Tuxedo Black Memento Ink to stamp the flamingo from the Two Tropical Birds Unmounted Rubber Stamp Set twice — once onto white cardstock and once onto repositionable sticker paper.
3. Color the flamingo with Copic markers. Use a B41 Copic marker to outline the flamingo. 
4. Fussy-cut the sticker paper version of the flamingo and place it over its counterpart on the image panel. 
5. Place a piece of low-tack tape horizontally towards the bottom of the image panel. 
6. Brush or sponge Della Blue Elements Ink over the tape and the masked flamingo to add a blue background. 
7. Use a Fine Spray Mister filled with 91% Isopropyl Alcohol to mist image panel. The alcohol will add splotches and mottling to the background.
8.  Remove the repositionable mask from the flamingo. 
9. Move the tape so that it sits on the bottom of horizon line on the light blue ink. 
10. Brush or sponge Blue Lagoon Elements Ink over the bottom of the tape, the flamingo's shins and feet to cover the bottom part of the image panel. 
11. Brush or sponge Mermaid Elements Ink over the same area. 
12. Use a white gel pen to add ripples and white highlights to the water then set the. image panel aside while you work on the background panel.
13. Place a piece of 5.5" x 8.5" white cardstock onto a magnetic surface secured with low-tack tape and/or magnets. 
14. Sponge or brush Verdant VersaFine Clair Ink onto the white cardstock to start the background panel. 
15. Sponge or brush Grass Green VersaFine Clair Ink overtop blending as you go. Heat set. 
16. Cut 1" from the inked panel and place onto a stamping platform, secured with magnets and/or low-tack tape. 
17. Place the "Balance" sentiment from the Flamazing Clear Stamp Set 617  facedown on the inked strip of cardstock. 
18. Press the platform's lid onto the back of the stamp and lift.
19. Ink the stamp with Green Oasis VersaFine Clair Ink and stamp. 
20. Remove the panel from the stamping platform.
21. Heat set the panel. 
22. Cut the sentiment strip with a thin long rectangle die.
23. Edge the sentiment die-cut with  Green Oasis VersaFine Clair Ink.
24. Place the Palm Fronds Stencil over the background panel (Steps #13-15) and secure with low-tack tape and/or magnets. 
25. Sponge or brush Green Oasis VersaFine Clair Ink over the stencil onto the background panel. 
26. Randomly sponge or brush Rain Forest VersaFine Clair Ink over the stencil onto the background panel to deepen the green. 
27. Remove the stencil. 
28. Trim the background panel and edge with Rain Forest VersaFine Clair Ink. 
29. Heat set the panel.
30. Center the second largest die from the Frayed Frames Die Set 26 on the background panel and secure with low-tack tape. 
31. Run the die and panel through your machine to cut a window in the background.
32. Adhere the image panel behind the opening in the background panel.
33. Adhere the sentiment die-cut to the top of the background panel as shown.
34. Take the reserved white 5" x 7" card from Step 1. 
35. Sponge the outer .5" perimeter of the cards with Green Oasis and Rain Forest VersaFine Clair Inks. 
36. Adhere the cardfront to the card.

Nocturne VersaFine Clair Ink by Imagine Crafts/Tsukineko

Instructions:

1. Create an A6 card from Raven cardstock. Set aside.
2. Use Obsidian Black Amalgam Ink to stamp the braided hippie chick from the Hippy Chicks A5 Clear Stamp Set twice — once onto white cardstock and once onto repositionable sticker paper.
3. Use Copic markers to color the cardstock version. I chose my colors to match one of the tie-dye designs from the 6x6 Feeling Groovy 6x6 Paper Pad.
4. Use a White Gelly Roll Gel pen to add a highlight to the pupil of her eye.
5. Fussy-cut the repositionable sticker paper version, stamped in Step 2 then adhere it atop its counterpart as a mask. 
6. Place the image panel onto the STAY-tion and secure with magnets and/or low-tack tape. I use both.
7. Place a piece of repositionable Scotch Tape horizontally across the image panel below the bottom of the Hippy Chick's hem, covering the bottom of the image panel.
8. Sponge or brush Squeezed Lemonade Distress Ink over the tape and the masked gippie.
9. Sponge or brush Fossilized Amber Distress Ink over the tape, the masked Hippy Chick, and the outside of the top of the image panel. It will blend with the existing yellow ink.
10. Wipe the excess ink off of the repositionable tape and reposition it so that it's sitting on the top of the horizontal inked line and covering the top part of the image panel.
11. Sponge or brush Shabby Shutters Distress Ink over the tape, the masked hippie, and onto the bottom of the image panel. 
12. Sponge or brush Twisted Citron Distress Ink from the bottom and the sides of the image panel upwards to blend and lighten the green ink.
13. Remove the image panel from the STAY-tion.
14. Remove the mask the Hippy Chick.
15. Heat set the image panel. 
16. Secure the image panel onto the base of the stamping platform with low-tack tape and/or magnets.
17. Position the "Yoga" sentiment stamp from the Hippy Chicks A5 Clear Stamp Set facedown below the Hippy Chicks.
18. Press the lid of the platform onto the back of the sentiment stamp and lift.
19. Ink the sentiment stamp with Nocturne VersaFine Clair Ink and stamp.
20. Re-ink and stamp a second time if needed for a good impression.
21. Remove the image panel from the stamping platform and heat set the sentiment.
22. Trim the image panel.
23. Cut black textured cardstock .25" larger than the image panel and use to mat the image panel.
24. Cut a piece of the tie-dye patterned paper from the 6x6 Feeling Groovy 6x6 Paper Pad to 6" x 4.25". This will become the background panel.
25. Secure the patterned paper background panel to the base of the stamping platform with low-tack tape and/or magnets.
26. Position the circles border stamp from the Borderline A5 Clear Stamp Set facedown vertically along the left side of the background panel.
27. Press the lid of the platform onto the back of the border stamp and lift.
28. Ink the border stamp with Nocturne VersaFine Clair Ink and stamp.
29. Re-ink and stamp a second time if needed for a good impression.
30. Clean and dry the stamp.
31. Remove the background panel, flip it 180°, and secure it to the base of the stamping platform with  low-tack tape and/or magnets.
32. Press the lid of the platform onto the back of the border stamp and lift.
33. Ink the border stamp with Nocturne VersaFine Clair Ink and stamp.
34. Re-ink and stamp a second time if needed for a good impression.
35. Remove the background panel from the stamping platform.
36. Heat set the stamped borders.
37. Use a black marker to edge the background panel.
38. Adhere the matted image panel to the background panel.
39. Adhere the background panel to the reserved black A6 card to finish the card.

Instructions:

1. Make a 7" x 5" card from Raven Black Textured Cardstock. Set aside.
2. Use Obsidian Black Amalgam Ink to stamp two of the penguins from the Penguin Anthropomorphs Rubber Stamp Set onto white cardstock and onto repositionable sticker paper. Heat set.
3. Color both penguins with Copic markers. 
4. Use White gel pen  to emphacize the penguins' eyes, then use a black fine point multilinerto add pupils. 
5. Use Gold and red Stardust Glitter pens to add some glitter to his crown, his sceptre, and her hat dangles. 
6. Fussy-cut the sticker paper versions of both images and place them over their counterparts on the image panel. 
7. Place Repositionable Scotch Tape horizontally across the bottom part of the image panel. 
8. Sponge or brush Lost Shadow Distress Ink over the tape and the masked images to add color to the background.
9. Use magnets and/or low-tack tape to secure the Feather Leaf 8x8 Stencil over the image panel.
10. Sponge or brush Lost Shadow Distress Ink over the stencil to add pattern and visual interest to the background.
11. Move the repositionable Scotch Tape so that it sits on the horizon linecovering the bottom of the top of the image panel. 
12. Sponge or brush Desert Sand Memento Ink over the tape and the masked images to add a floor.
13. Remove the tape and masks.
14. Trim the image panel and edge with a black marker.
15. Cut a piece of Raven Black Textrued cardstock so that it's .25" larger than the image panel and use to mat the image panel. 
16. Trim red heart-patterned paper to 6.75" x 4.75" and edge with a black marker to become the background panel.
17. Adhere the patterned paper background panel to the reserved black 7" x 5" card.
18. Select a snarky sticker from the Sentimental Sticker Stack and edge it with a black marker.
19. Cut a strip of gold metallic cardstock slightly larger than the sticker and use it to mat the sticker.
20. Use a corner die to cut gold metallic cardstock four times.
21. Adhere the image panel, matted sticker, and corners to the background patterned paper to finish the card.

Stamping Platform

Instructions:

1. Make an A2 card from green cardstock. Set aside.
2. Add drops of Shutters and Pool Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylic Paints to a piece of Cut 'n' Dry Foam (or a firm foam makeup wedge). 
3. Pounce the paint onto a craft mat to blend, then pounce the paint over a piece of Bristol or other heavy weight paper, varying the direction of the foam. Re-apply the paint to the foam as needed. Heat set the panel if desired. 
4. Use the two largest dies from the Polaroid Pop Die Set DI-89  to cut the painted paper.
5. Use Nocturne VersaFine Clair Ink to stamp the ladybug from the JM45 Mini Cling Rubber Stamp onto the center of the smaller die-cut and heat set. 
6. Use watercolor markers and/or colored pencil to color the ladybug. 
7. Use a white colored pencil or a white paint marker to add highlights to the ladybug. *
8. Pounce an anti-static pouch of the image die-cut panel. 
9. Use VersaMark ink to stamp the cage from the JM36 Mini Cling Rubber Stamp over the colored ladybug. 
10. Add detail gold embossing powder to the wet ink, dump off the excess embossing powder into its container, and heat set. 
11. Use Sparkling Brights Colorista Glitter Markers to add sparkly color to the embossed bird cage. Heat set the glitter ink.
12. Add 2" Sookwang Double-sided tape to the reverse of a piece of gold metalllic cardstock.
13. Use alphabet dies to cut the gold metallic cardstock then adhere the "Caught a bug?" sentiment to the image die-cut panel. Set aside.
14. Add drops of Lawn and Spring Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylic Paintsto another piece of Cut 'n' Dry Foam. 
15. Pounce the paint onto the bottom of the larger painted die-cut panel, which will become the background layer. 
16. Use a paint brush to add blades of grass.
17. Adhere the image die-cut panel to the background die-cut panel as shown.
18. Cut gold metallic cardstock so that it's slightly larger than the image background die-cut panel and use to mat the background die-cut panel. 
19. Use the flag die from the Polaroid Pop Die Set DI-89 to cut gold metallic cardstock. 
20. Flip the gold metallic cardstock panel.
21. Use low-tack tape to cover the flag-shaped aperture on the reverse of the panel.
22. Adhere the gold metallic flag into the aperture.
23. Place the gold metallic panel onto the base of a stamping platform secured with low-tack tape and/or magnets.
24. Pounce the anti-static patch onto the die-cut.
25. Position the "Get Well Soon" sentiment from the More Classic Sentiments Clear Stamp Set facedown on the die-cut.
26. Press the platform's lid onto the back of the stamp and lift.
27. Ink the sentiment stamp with Nocturne VersaFine Clair Ink and stamp the "Get Well Soon" sentiment onto the die-cut. 
28. Add black detail embossing powder to the wet ink, dump the excess embossing powder back into its container, and heat set. 
29. Adhere the sentiment flag die-cut to the background die-cut as shown. 
30. Adhere the background die-cut to the reserved green A2 card.

Notes:

• I wasn't happy with the white colored pencil highlights on the ladybug's shell, so I added white gel pen overtop. It immediately turned pink. I tried using White Posca Paint, and that didn't work well either, so I used Doc PH Marten's Anti-bleed White, which while it stayed white, applied really goopily. I should have left well enough alone. Alas.
• I am happy that the Nocturne VersaFine Clair Ink stamped cleanly on the metallic cardstock. So one win, one loss.

1. Create a 6" square card from Raven cardstock. Set aside.
2. Use Obsidian Black Amalgam Ink to stamp the three ninjas from the Ninja Squad Clear Stamp onto white Classic Crest cardstock.
3. Use the matching dies from the Ninja Squad Die Set to cut the ninjas.
4. Use Copic markers to color the ninjas. Set them aside.
5. Use the Songbird Die to cut Bristol Paper.
6. Use Copic markers to color the cage, leaves, and birds.
7. Use the same Copic markers to color the reverse of the die-cut.
8. Use the Gold Stardust Glitter pen to add glitter to the cage.
9. Pounce the antistatic pouch onto black cardstock.
10. Use VersaMark Ink to stamp the sentiments from the Ninja Squad Clear Stamp onto Raven cardstock.
11. Add White Detail Embossing Powder to the wet ink, dump the excess powder back into the container, and heat set the powder.
12. Use speech bubble dies to cut the sentiments.
13. Cut a piece of floral patterned paper to 5.875" square to create the card front. 
14. Edge the patterned paper with Nocturne VersaFine Clair Ink.
15. Adhere the Songbird Die-cut cage to the patterned paper.
16. Adhere the sentiment die-cuts and the ninjas to the patterned paper.
17. Adhere the card front to the reserved card.

Celebrate with Funky Fossil Designs

I was unable to share a project with Funky Fossil Designs products last Saturday because my not-so-dh gave me the ick and I've been sick for more than a week now. After a course of antibiotics, I'm feeling slightly better, though I'm still really tired and coughing. So I'm sharing today and will share again tomorrow on my "normal" day.

As you know, I love all things Steampunk and am especially enamored of products designed by Belinda Basson, aka the Steampunk Queen. Belinda is one of the wonderful product designers for Funky Fossil Designs. It's a secret, but I've got a massive fangirl crush on her for ages.

1. Create a 5" x 7" card from Navy cardstock. Set aside.
2. Use Obsidian Black Ink to stamp the Steampunk Rabbit from the Clockwork Woodland Clear Stamp Set by Belinda Basson onto white Classic Crest Cardstock.
3. Fussy-cut the Steampunk Rabbit, color him with Copic markers, and edge with a black marker.
4. Use a White Gelly Roll Gel Pen to strengthen the highlights in the Steampunk Rabbit's eyes.
5. Use a Clear Glaze pen to coat the clear areas of the rabbit's eyepiece and goggles. Let the first layer of Glaze dry, then add another layer of Clear Glaze. Repeat until you're happy with the dimension and shine.
6. Set the Steampunk Rabbit aside well out of the line of fire.
7. Place a piece of watercolor paper into a box. Spray with Shabby Shutters Distress Oxide Spray. Heat set.
8. Mist the watercolor paper and heat set.
9. Spray the watercolor paper with Mowed Lawn Dixtress Oxide Spray. Heat set.
10. Mist with water, then sprinkle on some Green Man Infusions. Let it sit for a bit, then mist with water again to let the powders activate. Heat set.
11. Spray the watercolor paper with Rusty Lantern Lime Starburst Spray to add some shimmer. Heat set.
12. Add a few drops of Metallic Jade and Metallic VerdiGris Liquid Metals to a craft mat. Mist with water. Use a paintbrush to apply the Liquid Metals to the sprayed and infused watercolor paper. Heat set. 
13. Place an acrylic mat over the watercolor paper and add heavy objects over it to flatten the watercolor paper.
14. Use the paintbrush to add Metallic Jade and Metallic VerdiGris Liquid Metals to a piece of patterned paper from the Mixed Media Compendium 8x8 Patterned Paper Pad. Heat set.
15. Trim the patterned paper to 4.75" x 6.75", edge with a grey Copic marker, and set aside.
16. Use the Leafy Wreath Die  to cut the flattened inky watercolor paper twice.
17. Use the open nameplate and solid nameplate dies from the Specimen Slides Die Set to cut the inky watercolor paper. 
18. Adhere the open nameplate to the solid nameplate.
19. Trim the sentiment from the Sentiment Sticker Stack so it reads "Celebrate".
20. Color the sentiment sticker with Copic Markers and add it to the completed nameplate die.
21. Use a Steampunk corner die to cut four corners from the remaining inky watercolor paper.
22. Adhere one Leafy Wreath atop the other one, offseting the leaves slightly.
23. Adhere the base of the Steampunk Rabbit under the bottom of the Leafy Wreath with his ears and hat over the top of the Leafy Wreath.
24. Adhere the sentiment nameplate over the bottom of the Leafy Wreath so that it's covering the base of the Steampunk Rabbit.
25. Adhere the Steampunk Rabbit/Leafy Wreath combo to the patterned paper panel to create the card front.
26. Adhere the four corner dies to corners of the card front.
27. Use a stabby tool to poke holes through the patterned paper under the corner dies and under the nameplate. Be sure to place a mat under the patterned paper so you don't stab yourself or your crafting surface.
28. Place a tiny brass metal gears on each end of four corner die-cuts. 
29. Secure each gear with a  positive or negative screwtop brass mini-brad inserted through the cardfront and open the brad on the reverse.
30. Place a copper gear in the center of each of the four corner die-cuts. 
31. Secure the gear with blue mini-brads inserted through the cardfront and open the brad on the reverse.
32. Place a copper gear on either side of the nameplate.
33. Secure the gear with blue mini-brads inserted through the cardfront and open the brad on the reverse.
34. Adhere the card front to the reserved blue 5" x 7" card.

Instructions:

1. Create a 5" x 7" card from heavy white cardstock. Set aside.
2. Use Obsidian Black Amalgam Ink to ink the Cat and Bird Rubber Stamp and stamp it into the center of a piece of white cardstock.
3. Use Copic markers to color the cat and the magpie.
4. Use low-tack tape to secure one of the dies from the Bigz Tags Crea-Nest-Lies XXL 6 Die Set over the image panel.
5. Cut the image panel, flip it over with the die in place, and tape the die-cut to the surrounding panel.
6. Use the B60 and <B60 Copic markers to color the background up to the cutting die.
7. Remove the panel and use the colorless blender to remove any stray coloring on the border.
8. Use the White Gelly Roll Gel Pen to accentuate the highlights in the cat's eyes.
9. Use blue and black Starlight Glitter pens to add glitter dots to the magpie's crown.
10. Trim the length of the image panel die-cut.
11. Cut a piece of the patterned paper to 4.625" x 6.625" and edge with a B60 marker.
12. Cut a piece of Comodore Blue cardstock to 4.75" x 6.75" and use to mat the patterned paper.
13. Use the border die to cut Comodore Blue cardstock.
14. Adhere the Back Chat sticker to one of the borders cut by the border die.
15. Adhere the image panel die-cut to the matted patterned paper.
16. Adhere the sentiment/border die-cut across the base of the image panel die-cut.
17. Adhere the card front to the reserved white card.

Notes:

• The copyright date on the patterned paper is 2006. Imagination Project is defunct.
• The border die cuts several dies in one pass. Cheery Lynn is also defunct.

Experience Bliss

It's Tuesday so it's time to share a project created for Topflight Stamps. The theme this week is "Anything Goes". There's been some ick at my house, so I made a card that shows my happy place using the Pelican Galleon Clear Stamp Set 1186,  Quirky Post Die Set DI87, and the Motivation Station Ephemera Die Cuts 55 all by AALL and Create.

Stamping Platform

Instructions:

1. Place white cardstock onto the base of a stamping platform and secure with low-tack tape and/or magnets. 
2. Place the large postage die from the Quirky Post Die Set DI87 atop the paper. 
3. Position the galleon stamp from the Pelican Galleon Clear Stamp Set 1186 facedown on the bottom left of the die/cardstock. 
4. Place the pelican island stamp from the same set facedown towards the top and the right side of the die. 
5. Press the platform's lid onto the back of the stamps and lift.
6.  Remove the die.
7. Use Tuxedo Black Memento Ink to ink both stamps then stamp onto the image panel. 
8. Use a B41 Copic marker to outline the stamped images. *
9. Ink both stamps again and stamp onto repositionable sticker paper. 
10. Fussy-cut the sticker paper versions and place them over their counterparts on the image panel.
11. Use low-tack tape to secure the large postage die from the Quirky Post Die Set DI87 onto the image panel and cut.
12.  Remove the die.
13. Place low-tack tape along the perforated lines on all four sides on the image panel die-cut to cover the postage edges.
14. Place another piece of low-tack tape horizontally across the image panel die-cut below the island.
15. Sponge or brush Della Blue Elements Ink over the tape onto masked image panel to create a light blue sky background. 
16. Remove the horizontal tape and the masks from the image panel, but keep the tape covering the postage edges in place.
17. Use Copic markers to color the galleon, the island, the pelicans, and the ocean. 
18. Use a white gel pen to add whitecaps to the ocean and the tops of the waves. *
19. Remove the low-tack tape from the image panel die-cut. 
20. Cut a piece of black cardstock slightly larger than the image panel die-cut and use it to mat the image panel. 
21. Adhere the matted image panel die-cut to a blue A6 card.
22. Select the sentiment from the Motivation Station Ephemera Die Cuts 55 and edge with a black Pigma marker. 
23. Adhere the sentiment die-cuts to finish the card.

Notes:

• My happy place is at the beach during the offseason when it's not too "peoply". I also love to be on the water.
• B41 matches Della Blue very well.
• To create the waves, whitecaps, and movement in the ocean, draw a horizontal line with the white Gelly Roll Gel Pen, then use your finger to slightly smear it.
