Catish Tales at Kath's Tales

It's Tuesday, which means it's time to share a project created for Topflight Stamps. This week my teammates and I are showcasing the wonderful Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylic Paints  by PaperArtsy. If you like acrylic paints and haven't tried these yet, you absolutely must. There are over 180 colors of paint, encompassing 22 color families. These paints produce a lovely chalk finish and are wonderful to create stampable or stencilable (new word) backgrounds. You can also use them to paint images or other elements.

Here's my slimline card.

Instructions:
  1. Use Tuxedo Black Memento ink to stamp the bookish cat from the Elena Zinski Art #47 Rubber Cling Mounted Stamp Set. I'll admit that I cheated on the challenge by not attempting to paint him.
  2. Instead, he was fussy-cut, colored with Copic markers, then edged with a dark marker.
  3. Several layers of clear Glaze gel pen were added to his glasses to add dimension and shine. He was set aside while I created the background.
  4. Apply Taro Milk TeaBougainvilleaClaretPeriwinkleCloudy, and Blueberry  Fresco Chalk Acrylic Paints to 140 lb. Mixed Media cardstock using Cut-N-Dry™ Foam.
  5. When it is dry, (which doesn't take long at all) use the largest die from the Decorative Squared Rectangles Die Set to cut it. See the photo below.
  6. Use magnets to secure watercolor paper to the base of stamping platform.
  7. Position the Book Spines Frame Stamp Red Rubber Cling Stamp facedown onto the paper, lift the lid, then ink the stamp with Jet Black Archival ink.
  8. Re-ink and re-stamp if necessary to get a good image.
  9. Keep the stamp on the platform!
  10.  Paint the books with Cloudy, Blew, Stone, and London Bus Fresco Chalk Acrylic Paints.
  11. Use Onyx Black VersaFine Inkto stamp the word "Purrfect" from the Felines Clear Stamp Set and the mouse and fishbones from the Cats Clear Polymer Stamp Set onto the spines of the books as shown.
  12. Use chalk pencils to add some shading to the books.
  13. Use Pitt Artist Markers to color the mouse and use white gel pen to color the fishbones.
  14. Fussy-cut the books and edge them with a dark marker.
  15. Use the largest die from the Slim Diagonal Stitched Rectangles die to cut black cardstock.
  16. Adhere the painted die-cut background to the black die-cut.
  17. Adhere the three rows of washi tape to the base of the matted die-cuts as shown. Secure them on the back.
  18. Adhere the books and cat to the image panel as shown.
  19. Finish the card by adhering the card front to a blue slimline card.
Here's the photo referred to in Step #5. The color is a bit different due to the lighting and the state of my iPhone.
