  8. Move the tape to cover the top part of the image panel.

  22. Adhere the two small deckled were adhered to the background panel.
  23. Adhere the the matted image panel die-cut over the deckled rectangle die-cuts as shown.
  24. Adhere the card front was adhered to the reserved black card.
Note:
  • Copic markers can be used to color patterned paper to match your project IF the patterned paper is cardstock weight. The inks will likely run if the paper is thinner.
  • The flowers on the green patterned paper were originally light pink with a white center, so I used a Copic markers to alter their colors so that they matched the flowers on the stamped Grunge Cat

You still have time to create a project for the Lost Coast Design/Carmen's Veranda Portal to Creativity February's February Fruit, Flowers, and Foliage Challenge #194, but you best hurry! I hope you share a project for a chance to win Lost Coast Cash!

Notes:
  • When I was done with the stamping, embossing, ink sponging, watercoloring, and sentiment stamping, I decided that since the butterflies were grungy, I'd distress the edges, ink them with gold, and black then add some splatter with my stippling brush. BAD DECISION!!!
  • Also, I should have stamped the butterflies closer together so that more of the gorgeous patterned paper would show. Or I should have fussy-cut them to showcase the paper. Alas. Alack. Not a good day in Kathi Craftland.
  • BUT, with familyhealthstuff coming up, I decided that done is done and maybe someone somewhere will get inspiration from this. Or not.
Instructions:
  1. Pat a piece of Mixed Media paper with the anti-static pouch.
  2. Place the piece of Mixed Media paper onto the base of a stamping platform, secured with magnets.
  3. Place two of the butterflies from the Wings of Change Clear Stamp Set facedown on the Mixed Media panel where desired.
  4. Press the platform's lid onto the back of the stamps and lift.
  5. Ink the stamp with Frost Dazzle VersaMark Ink and stamp.
  6. Re-ink the stamp with Nocturne VersaFine Clair Ink and stamp. Re-ink and stamp again if needed to attain a good stamped impression.
  7. Remove the panel from the stamping platform, pour Black Detail embossing powder onto the wet ink.
  8. Pour the excess powder back into the container.
  9. Heat set the image.
  10. Sponge or brush dye inks over the embossed image panel until you're happy with the blended background.
  11. Wipe the ink off of the embossed image.
  12. Mist the image panel with water and heat set.
  13. Flatten the image panel by placing it on the base of a die-cut machine with clean cardstock and both cutting plates on top of it.
  14. Run the sandwich through the die-cut machine several times.
  15. Add drops of water to the mica watercolor dots.
  16. Use paint brushes to paint the butterflies.
  17. When done painting the butterflies, heat set the panel.
  18. Place the panel onto the base of the stamping platform, secured with magnets.
  19. Position the sentiments from the Wings of Change Clear Stamp Set facedown on the image panel.
  20. Press the platform's lid onto the back of the stamps and lift.
  21. Ink the stamps with Nocturne VersaFine Clair Ink and stamp. Re-ink and stamp again if needed to attain a good stamped impressions.
  22. Remove the panel from the stamping platform and heat set the sentiments.

  24. Cut a piece of black cardstock to 10" x 7".

Life is full of Beauty

Greetings! Saturday is my day to share a project for Funky Fossil Designs. Their newest collection is the Mixed Media Compendium and it's absolutely fabulous! Click HERE to see what's new! However, I will tell you that you really ought to check out the bundled Mixed Media Compendium Collection which includes the A5 Beauty In Bloom Clear Stamp Set, the A5 Wings of Change Clear Stamp Set, the  Mixed Media Stencil Pack, the 8x8 Mixed Media Compendium Patterned Paper Pad, and the Checkmate Stellar Paste. It's a fantastic deal!

However, I opted to go fairly clean and simple with my first project using the Mixed Media Compendium products, though I channeled my inner magpie and made it sparkly.

Here's my card!

Funky Fossil Products Used:

Other Products Used:
Cryogen White Curious Metallic Cardstock
Raven Textured Cardstock by Bazzill Basics
Obsidian Amalgam Ink by Gina K Designs
Lost Shadow Distress Ink by Tim Holtz for Ranger Ink
Tranquil and Serene Dye Inks by Catherine Pooler Designs
Nocturne VersaFine Clair Ink by Imagine Crafts/Tsukineko
Copic Markers: BV000, BV0000, E21, E000
Shinhan Touch Markers: Dark Blue Light, Pale Blue, Coral Red, Deep Red
Pigma Black Pen
Repositionable Sticker Paper by Avery
Glassboard by Glassboard Studios
Stamping Platform

Notes:
  • Cryogen White Curious Metallic Cardstock is an off-white shimmery cardstock that is compatible with alcohol markers. When dye inks are applied, they acquire a lovely shimmer, which appeals to my inner magpie. I hope you can see the shimmer on my card.
  • My "go to" Memento Dye Ink smeared horribly and corrupted a completely innocent Copic marker. so I tried Amalgam ink instead and heat set it.
  • I did not want to risk contaminating my beloved Copics, so I used older duplicate markers for the skin and Shinhan Touch markers for the flowers and her lips. I had purchased a few Shinhan Touch markers when I first started my alcohol marker journey addiction over 15 years ago. The ones I used were still mostly okay, but I discovered a red one whose nib just broke off.
Instructions:
  1. Cut a piece of 12x12 black cardstock in half, score at 6", and fold to form a 6" square card. Set aside.
  2. Use Obsidian Amalgam Ink to stamp the left gazing face from the Beauty In Bloom Clear Stamp Set twice — once onto a 6" square panel of Cryogen White Curious Metallic cardstock and once onto repositionable sticker paper.
  3. Heat set the image on the Cryogen White cardstock.
  4. Use alcohol markers to color the face and the flowers.
  5. Fussy-cut the sticker paper version of the Beauty In Bloom face and place it over its counterpart on the image panel as a mask.
  6. Brush Lost Shadow Distress Ink over the image panel.
  7. Place the Flowerful Mask over the left side of the image panel and secure with magnets.
  8. Brush Tranquil over the Flowerful Mask onto the image panel.
  9. Remove the mask from the image panel.
  10. Move the image panel and clean the Glassboard.
  11. Place the Winged Mask over the image panel, secured with magnets.
  12. Brush Serene over the Winged Mask onto the image panel.
  13. Remove the mask from the image panel.
  14. Move the image panel, clean both masks, and the Glassboard.
  15. Remove the sticker paper mask from the stamped image.

  21. Press the platform's lid onto the back of the stamp and lift.
  22. Ink the sentiment stamp with Nocturne VersaFine Clair Ink and stamp. Re-ink and stamp again if necessary to attain a good impression.

Love Anchors The Soul

Greetings! Saturday is my day to share a project for Funky Fossil Designs. Here's a very large card created with the Vintage Ink Collection by Belinda Basson. It's a retro tattoo themed collection with fabulous imagery which I just love. I've used the Hello Sailor Clear Stamp Set, the Vintage Ink 8x8 Patterned Paper Pad, and the three-piece Rope Frame Die Set

By the way, the Vintage Ink Core Collection, which is comprised of Forever True Clear Stamp SetHello Sailor Clear Stamp Set is on sale right now, and so is the Rope Frame Die Set!

Here it is!

Instructions:
  1. Create an 5.5" x 8.5" card from black cardstock. Set aside.
  2. Use Tuxedo Black Memento Ink to stamp the Sailor image from the Hello Sailor Clear Stamp Set twice — once onto white cardstock and once onto repositionable sticker paper.
  3. Use Copic markers to color the image on the cardstock.
  4. Fussy-cut the sticker paper version and place it over its counterpart on the image panel as a mask.
  5. Place the center die from the Rope Frame Die Set facedown over the image panel and secure with low-tack tape. Run this combo through your die-cut machine.
  6. Place the image panel die-cut onto a STAY-tion and secure with magnets.
  7. Place a piece of low-tack tape horizontally across the image panel where the sun's rays stop and the roses begin.
  8. Brush Squeezed Lemonade Distress Ink over the tape and the masked image onto the die-cut.
  9. Remove the low-tack tape from the image panel. Replace it horizontally so that it's covering the top part of the image panel.
  10. Brush Uncharted Mariner Distress Ink over the tape and the masked image onto the bottom part of the image panel die-cut.
  11. Edge the image panel die-cut with a black marker.
  12. Use the Solid Rope Frame Die from the Rope Frame Die Set to cut mustard yellow Core'dinations Cardstock.
  13. Use a sanding block to rough up the surface and the edges.
  14. Use the Rope Frame Die to cut another piece of the mustard yellow Core'dinations Cardstock. Be sure to retain all the pieces that pop out of the die.
  15. Randomly sponge and edge both yellow die-cuts with Fossilized Amber, Rusty Hinge, Vintage Photo, and Tea Dye Distress Inks to add a touch of grunge to both die-cuts.
  16. Use a tape-runner type of adhesive around outside .5" of the solid frame die-cut.
  17. Adhere the open rope frame atop the solid rope frame.
  18. Place all the bits of inlay on a sticky mat and use a stipple brush to add splats and splotches of Distress ink to them.
  19. Inlay all the bits into their counterparts on the combined Rope Frame Die. It's fiddly, but worth it.
  20. Heavily edge the entire rope frame die-cut with Vintage Photo Distress Ink.
  21. Adhere the image panel die-cut to the center of the Rope Frame.
  22. Realize that it's not straight. Be bummed out. Shrug it off.
  23. Cut two .5" strips of blue polka dot paper from the Vintage Ink 8x8 Patterned Paper Pad. Trim them to 6" wide.
  24. Adhere them to a piece of cardstock cut to 6" x 8.5".
  25. Trim the floral patterned paper from the Vintage Ink 8x8 Patterned Paper Pad to 6" wide. Edge both the top and bottom with a black pen.
  26. Adhere the floral patterned paper between the polka dot paper.
  27. Adhere the image panel die-cut to the layered patterned paper.
  28. Trim the layered paper to 5.5" wide which will cut off part of the rope frame. Alas. Alack. Poor planning on my part. Be more bummed out. Shrug it off again.
  29. Use a black marker to edge the 5.5" x 8.5" panel.
  30. Adhere it to the reserved black card.
  31. Back a piece of vellum with Sookwang or any other strong two-sided tape.
  32. Secure the vellum to the base of a stamping platform with tape, magnets, etc.
  33. Using a stamping platform and Azure StazOn Ink, stamp the "Love Anchors the Soul" sentiment from the Hello Sailor Clear Stamp Set. Re-ink and stamp again if necessary to attain a good impression.
  34. Use a flag die to cut the sentiment.
  35. Trim the sentiment flag die-cut a tad.
  36. Remove the backing of the tape and adhere the sentiment as shown to finish the card.
