Happy "Talk Like a Pirate" Day!

"Ahoy, Matey! Did you know that today is International Talk Like a Pirate Day? It's a day just for fun, a day to let out the pirate in each of us. We like "just for fun" days and we know you do, too.

Practice up your "pirate-speak" in anticipation of this day. The conversation will be lively, and you don't want to be left behind. Today, everyone will be talking the talk, if not walking the walk. It is not a requirement to dress like a pirate today. Just talk like one. "

In honor of International "Talk Like a Pirate" Day, here's a pirate themed birthday card created for Topflight Stamps with the Parrot Unmounted Red Rubber Stamp and Napoleon Elephant Unmounted Red Rubber Stamp Set by KatzelkraftVintage Map Foam Mounted Rubber Stamp by Stamperia, and a sentiment from the Classic Sentiments by Heffy Doodle.

Instructions:
  1. Use Onyx Black VersaFine Ink to stamp the Vintage Map onto 140 lb. Mixed Media cardstock. Heat set.
  2. Use diluted Light Brown, White, Cobalt, Turquoise, and Leaf Green Brusho Crystal Colours to watercolor the stamped image.
  3. Use watercolor markers to add outlines to the coastal areas, to color the ship, and to add a bit of depth to the land areas.
  4. Use Metallic markers and gel pens to add some detail to the compass, nautical instruments, and the gears.
  5. Use Red Metallic marker to add an "X" for the treasure.
  6. Spritz the back of the image panel with water and roll it up several times to create some creases and folds. Heat set.
  7. Use blending foams with Gathered Twigs and Black Soot Distress inks to accent the creases and fold created in the previous step.
  8. Tear the edges then edge them with Distress ink to add to the vintage treasure map look.
  9. Use Tuxedo Black Memento ink to stamp the parrot,  Napoleon Elephant, and Napoleon's hat onto white cardstock.
  10. Fussy-cut the images, color them with Copic markers, and edge them with a dark marker.
  11.  Adhere Napoleon, his hat, and the parrot to the background panel as shown. I ended up covering the clipper ship on the map. Alas.
  12. Cut kraft cardstock with the banner and the speech bubble dies.
  13. Use Crimson Red VersaFine ink to stamp the birthday sentiment from the Classic Sentiments Clear Stamp Set onto a die-cut banner.
  14. Use Crimson Red VersaFine ink to stamp the "Yo Ho Ho" sentiment onto a speech bubble.
  15. Use Onyx Black VersaFine ink to stamp skull and crossbones onto the small speech bubble.
  16. Apply a row of press-type letter "rrrrrr" below the skull and crossbones.
  17. Edge the banner and both speech bubbles were edged with Aged Mahogany Distress ink.
  18. Adhere the image panel to a 7" x 5" kraft card.
  19. Adhere the sentiment die-cuts to finish the card.
