Let Your Dreams Be Your Compass

It's Tuesday which means it's my day to share a project created for Topflight Stamps. This week I'm revisiting a favorite theme of mine, namely Steampunk. I've created a card using Stamperia's Lady Vagabond  and Lady Vagabond Flying A5 Foam Mounted Stamp Sets with the Distressed Bricks 6x6 Stencil by Paper Rose and the Small Elements Set 2 Clear Stamp Set by That's Crafty.

It's a rather large card at 8.5 x 5.5"

Instructions:
  1. Score a piece of 8.5" x 11 black cardstock at 5.5" and fold to form a card. Set aside.
  2. Use Tuxedo Black Memento ink to stamp Lady Vagabond and her luggage from the Lady Vagabond A5 Foam Mounted Stamp Set and the Steampunk cat and the smaller clock from the Lady Vagabond Flying A5 Foam Mounted Stamp Set onto white cardstock.
  3. Color all the images with Copic markers, fussy-cut them,  and edge them with a dark marker.
  4. Use Silver Ingot Metallic Spectrum Noir marker to color the rim of the clock, then cut with one of the Nestabilies Circle Dies.
  5. Coat the cat's goggles, the watch on his hat, the clock face, and the binocular lenses with several coats of Clear Glaze pen, letting each layer dry between applications.
  6. Set these elements aside.
  7. Use magnets to secure the the Distressed Bricks stencil over a piece of grey cardstock on the STAY-tion.
  8. Using the large blending brush from the 3 Blending Brush Set by Time for Tea Designs,  brush Fired Brick Distress ink over the stencil until there's no color left on the brush.
  9. Brush Rusted Hinge Distress ink over the the stencil to add additional color variations to the brick. Brush off the excess ink onto scrap paper.
  10. Brush a small amount of Aged Mahogany Distress ink over the stencil to deepen the color, then brush the excess ink onto a piece of scrap paper.
  11. Repeat Step #10 with Pumice Stone, then Black Soot Distress ink to dirty the bricks a bit.
  12. Keeping the stencil in place, lightly trace the bricks with a black chalk pencil.
  13. Remove the stencil and clean.
  14. Continue to add black chalk pencil details to the mortar and the brick, then blend with a q-tip, your finger, or a tissue.
  15. Trim blue cardstock 6" x 8.25".
  16. Use magnets to secure the Cloudy Day stencil over the blue cardstock onto the STAY-tion.
  17. Use the Hunkydory Blending Tool to sponge Sharktooth White Atelier Fusion ink over the stencil onto the blue cardstock. Remove the stencil and clean. Heat set the clouds.
  18. Remove the stenciled blue cardstock from the STAY-tion and use magnets to secure it to the base of a stamping platform.
  19. Place the birds stamp from the Small Elements Set 2 Clear Stamp Set by That's Crafty* facedown on the top right of the blue panel. Press the lid onto the back of the stamp and lift.
  20. Ink the stamp with  Onyx Black VersaFine Ink by Tsukineko and stamp.
  21. Keeping the stamp in the same position, slide the blue cardstock over ~3.25" to the right and secure with magnets.
  22. Re-ink the stamp and stamp again. Remove the birds stamp and clean.
  23. Re-secure the blue panel to the base of the platform. Position the compass stamp from the from Small Elements Stamp facedown onto the center of the blue panel as shown above. Press the stamp platform's lid onto the back of the stamp and lift.
  24. Ink the stamp with Starlite Black Brilliance ink and stamp. Repeat if necessary for a good impression.
  25. Heat set the clouds, birds, and compass at the top of the blue cardstock.
  26. The white fusion ink interfered a bit with the black ink, so went over the birds with a black marker, then heat set again because why not?
  27. The brick stenciled grey cardstock was adhered to the base of the blue panel, which was then trimmed to 5.25" wide. The entire panel was edged with Black Soot Distress ink.
  28. The luggage, Lady Vagabond, Steampunk kitty, and the clock were adhered as shown.
  29. The sentiment was trimmed from the inside cover of the patterned paper and edged with Black Soot Distress ink.
  30. Several layers of Clear Glaze pen were added to the small compass in the sentiment.
  31. The sentiment panel was adhered as shown.
  32. The card front was adhered to the black card and I called it done!
* I think the Small Elements Set 2 Clear Stamp Set by That's Crafty* will be incredibly useful. The stamps are sized to fit inchies, twinchies, dominos, and other small things. It's new to Topflight Stamp Store along with three other sets of Small Elements Clear Stamp Sets and some wonderful Dinky Stencils.

Thanks for visiting today!
