Squares

Corrie Herriman is hosting this week's challenge over at Stampotique Designer's Challenges. Her challenge theme is Squares.  Here's what she has to say about her challenge:
"I am very fond of circles in my work, so I want to get outside my comfort zone and use squares for a change and I would like you to join me. Have Fun!!"
If you'd like the chance to win your choice of $30 worth of Stampotique stamps, you should play along with this challenge. Visit Stampotique Designers Challenge blog and be sure to read the rules so that you'll have the chance to win that great prize!!! Remember to check to see the deadline for all of this month's Stampotique Designers Challenges!

Here's my card with Stampotique's Kitty Squad (Kira Nichols).

Kitty Squad was stamped several times with Tuxedo Black Memento ink (Imagine Crafts). I decided to use  just one of the four kitties on the stamp, so I fussy-cut each cat from the image and reserved the rest for a later project. The fussy-cut cats were colored with Copic markers and edged with Black Pitt Artist pens (Faber Castell). Their eyes were enhanced with Diamond Glaze (Judikins) and the cats were then set aside until the glaze dried.

I decided to make the background in shades of orange and pink, which is favorite color combination.

Dried Marigold Distress and Spiced Marmalade Distress ink (Ranger) were sponged over a square pattern stencil (Club Scrap) onto pale yellow-orange cardstock. Since the square in a square pattern was small, the stencil was repositioned, then sponged to form a continuous pattern across the cardstock. This process was repeated with the Checkerboard stencil (My Favorite Things) across the top part. When that was done, the same Distress inks were sponged over the yarn ball from the Kitties stencil (The Crafter's Workshop) and over one of the speech bubbles from the Speech Bubble stencil (Studio Calico). Spiced Marmalade and Worn Lipstick Distress inks were sponged over "Relax" and "Smile" on the Hey You stencil (Stampers Anonymous/Dina Wakley). All edges were sponged with the same three colors of Distress ink.

Distress markers in the same colors were used to go over and/or outline some elements of the card, then the Kitty Squad kitties were adhered in place.

Thanks for visiting today!
