Bombshell Stamp's Hump Day Hop!

It's the last Wednesday of the month, which means it's time for Bombshell Stamps' Hump Day Hop! Alison, our Hump Day Head Hottie, has issued this month's theme, which is "Baby, it's cold outside!"

Here's what she said about this month's hop theme:
It's time to announce the January 2013 Hump Day Hop theme! I don't know about you, but I am cold!!! That's why I decided to make this month's theme "Baby, it's Cold Outside." Make a winter themed project, use the title of the hop as a sentiment, dress your Bombshell up in warm clothes (or not!), etc.

This is the last stop in the hop. I hope you got here from Glittery Katie's blog where you most likely saw something totally gorgeous!

Here's my card.

Here's the sketch I used:

And here's my longwinded narrative on the creation of the card. My card features the Bombshell Pin-Up from the Bombshell Angel set, the Jockey Outfit from the Fantasy Bombshell Digital set, and the Santa hat from the Holiday Accessory set.

A small piece of removable Scotch Tape was placed over the top ofBombshell Pin-Up's head, the stamp was inked, the tape was removed, and I stamped her head and neck. Using my Stamp-a-Ma-Jig, I positioned the Santa hat atop her head. I drew in her bangs using a Copic Multi-liner, then colored her hair, face, neck, and Santa Hat using Copic markers.

Using PhotoElements, I erased the riding crop from the Jockey Outfit, then printed it out onto Neenah cardstock. The outfit was colored with Copic markers. I fussy cut the separate parts and then re-assembled the image so that she was intact again. Using my trusty Sakura Quicky Glue Pen, white Fun Flock by Stampendous was added to her Santa hat, the neckline of her jacket, and her gloves. Metallic Rub-ons by Craf-t Products was used to give her boots a bit of a leathery shimmer.

The patterned papers are all from the Snow Day 6x6 pad by BoBunny. All pieces were edged using Adirondack Metallic Pearl Paint Dabber. I use this paint frequently to edge layers when I want a mat, but don't feel like adding another layer of paper. Ice Silks Acrylic Glaze was painted on to become the snowy ground.

The sentiment was computer generated, die cut, then airbrushed while still in the die.

We've Got Chemistry!

My husband is a chemist, so whenever I see any chemistry-related stamp, I must buy it. It's the law. So when Kraftin' Kimmie came out with the Potionmaster stamp, I bought it. Then she released Lab Geek and I was all set to buy her too. But then I got lucky! I won a comment-to-win challenge and received Lab Geek in the mail!!! Oh joy! Oh rapture! Oh bliss!!!

Not only that, but the stamp arrived just in time for the latest challenge on the Kraftin Kimmie Challenge Blog!

Challenge #163, entitled "Something Old, Something New" was dead, solid perfect. So I created this card.

The new? The Lab Geek stamp, Delicate Chain Die Cut by Memory Box, and the Hexagon stencil by Studio Calico Designs.

The old? The Potionmaster stamp by Kraftin' Kimmie, the bright orange and white Chemistry paper from the Apothecary Emporium 6x6 pad by Echo Park, the Sugar Rush 6x6 pad by Basic Grey, and the Fiskar's Rain Dot Hearts.

Now, I know you're looking at this and saying to yourself, "Self, that ain't bright orange!" You're right. It's not. I didn't want the orange Halloweeny paper, but I still wanted the chemistry symbols and formulae, so I pulled out my trusty Claudine Helmuth Studio Gesso (by Ranger) and brushed it over the paper. Alas! Alack! The gesso was covering up the symbols, so I rapidly sprayed the Gessoed paper with rubbing alcohol, which I keep on my desk in an Inkssentials Mini-Mister and then used a baby wipe to wipe off the moisture and the gesso. Eureeka! The orange paper changed colors to a variegated orangey, peachy, pink combo. LOVE!!! I still wanted it a tad lighter, so I dabbed on some Picket Fence Distress Stain and wiped off immediately too. Then I set the piece to dry. When it was dry, I grabbed my Hexagon stencil and sponged Worn Lipstick Distress ink over that because the hexagons reminded me of the chemical symbols on the paper.

I used a tiny piece of removable Scotch Tape to mask the pumpkin-in-the-flask from The Potionmaster, inked the stamp, removed the tape, then stamped him using Tuxedo Black Memento ink. My Stamp-a-ma-jig was used to position Lab Geek where I wanted her. Both images were colored with Copic markers, which I'll list below. I added a touch of Gelly Roll Stardust Pure Glitter Pen to the Potionmaster's flask. The Potionmaster's goggles' lenses, the Lab Geek's safety shield, the beakers, and the flasks were coated with a layer of Glossy Accents.

The entwined hearts on the striped patterned paper was punched with an old Paper Shaper punch. Sizzix heart die cuts were added under the sentiment, which was stamped onto patterned paper using Onyx VersaFine ink. Heart shaped Rain Dots were used to finish the card.

BTW, the card bowed a bit from all the layers and such, so the photo is a bit wonky. It's being flattened between books now, so I hope it flattens eventually!

Kenny K Krafty Krew Challenge #128 -- Get Sketchy!

This week's first sponsor of Kenny K's Krafty Krew challenge is Kenny K's Downloads.

The prize from Kenny is the winner's choice of 5 digis!

And our second sponsor this week is Susie Little, who will award a bundle of crafty goodies to a lucky person!

Here's the sketch!

Here's my take on the sketch!

Tex is one of the new Heartbreakers Digi stamps. Isn't he HOT???

I'm not used to coloring images of men, so Tex presented a challenge. To get ready I had to look at lots of beefcake photos to check out the musculature. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it! *big grin*

Tex was printed out onto Neenah cardstock and colored with Copic markers, which I'll list below.

The patterned papers are older Cosmo Cricket papers from the Wanted 6x6 pad and some scraps from the 12x12 versions from the Wanted collection..I love using scraps. It makes me feel thrifty.

Old Cloud 9/Fiskar's Raindots were used as the embellishment part of the sketch. The sentiment was composed with old October Afternoon rub-ons.

Bombshell Stamps -- Wonderful Wednesday

As you may know, every Wednesday we feature a special post on Bombshell's Blog. The monthly Hump Day Hop theme is announced the first Monday. Our sketch and the DT's takes on the sketch are scheduled on the second Wednesday. The third Wednesday's features the Guest Designer's (aka Pin-Up's) challenge. Our Hump Day Hop starts on the blog on the last Wednesday of the month.

Every few months there are FIVE Wednesdays, which leaves a huge hole in our schedule, so we needed something special for that Wednesday. We've come up with Wonderful Wednesday. The Bombshell Girls and Pin-ups choose a tutorial from our Fabulous Friday Tutorials and create a project based on the tutorial. You should click on over to the Bombshell Blog to check out the projects AND the tutorials!

I used used Jodi's Glassine tutorial to create background paper with the Sacred Heart Art set and Ideology Glassine. I had tried this technique previously using clear glassine from the Post Office, but I must say it works much better with Ideology Kraft Glassine . This glassine seems to be much waxier!

BTW, I purchased a new MS/EK Success heat gun using a 50% coupon and am happy with it.

I also changed up Jodi's tutorial by using Blazing Red and Jet Black StazOn inks, Golden Glitz Delicata Gold Ink, and Heirloom Gold Perfect Pearls Mist instead of Distress Stain. The mist was sparklier and also produced a more subtle effect. I also veered off from her technique by adding a bit of Black Soot Distress ink to the raised creases.

Here's the background I created.

Here's the card.

I stamped the large heart from the Sacred Heart set with Champagne Dazzle VersaMark ink onto Kraft cardstock and heat set black Detail embossing powder. I painted the heart with Luminarte Silk Glazes, which are on sale now at SCACD! I mixed Vavoom Red, Cinnamon Brown, Sunburst, and Ginger Flower to create a good base red for the heart. Mallard Green, Black Ice, and Sunburst were mixed to create the green for the vine. The flames were painted with a combination my mixed red and Sunburst. It was my first time painting and shading an entire image with Silks and I'm moderately pleased.

I die cut the stamped, painted cardstock using my beloved Labels Four Nestabilities. I left the cardstock in the die and sponged on some Black Soot Distress ink. Black cardstock was diecut using my new Nestabilities Decorative Elements Dies, Labels Eight. Again, I left the cardstock in the die and sponged a bit of Golden Glitz Delicata ink.

*An aside: Golden Glitz Delicata ink is a gorgeous sparkly bright gold pigment ink that I love.

Garden Corners dies by SCACD were used to cut black cardstock and added to all four corners of the card. Small gold pearls were used to embellish the stamped piece and the corners.

Thanks for visiting today!

Well I like it! Pffft!

With all the CHA sneaks showing silhouetted figures with bright stencilled background and mixed media, I felt the need to create this card, which I submitted to a magazine. It was flushed.

Too bad, so sad. So I'm sharing it with you all.

I'm a bit of a nutter in that I keep all sorts of things because "one day they might be useful". One of the things I keep is blister packaging from Spellbinders dies. I guess I figure they're such a pain in the butt to open, I might as well re-use them. So, I grabbed one of the blister packs that had been cut on all three sides, leaving one side still attached. This became a masking folder! I pulled out my very old pinking sheers and cut down one of the sides. The other side I left alone. I slid a piece of Mixed Media 140 lb. cardstock into the folder, positioned so that the the straight side would form a horizontal line between the sky and grass in my scene. I then cut a circle from some plastic mask stuff (Mask Magic?) that I had and positioned it in the upper left to become the sun.

London Blue Dylusions Spray was sprayed over the cardstock, which had already been sprayed with water, to become the sky. I mopped up the excess with a tag to use another day. Then I grabbed a carwashing sponge that I had cut apart, dabbed it onto Worn Lipstick Distress Ink pad (I first typed "Worm Lipstick" -- ewwwww!), then dabbed it through the wet blue ink to add some pink undertones to the sky. When I was happy with the result, I lifted the plastic circle mask, removed the piece from its blister-pack folder, and heat set it with my underpowered, seriously irritating heat tool.

When it was finally dry (500 hours later), I slid the sky part into the blister-pack folder, this time with the pinked edge showing and sprayed Fresh Lime and Cut Grass Dylusions sprays over the pinked edge onto the cardstock. Some water was misted over the greens, then the cardstock was pulled out of the folder and heat set.

Meanwhile, awhile back I had die cut some thick cardstock with Poppystamps' Grassland Border die and put it aside, so I grabbed it and started to sponge Mown Grass and Pine Needles Distress ink over the negative area of the die cut onto the "grass". When I was happy with the look, I washed my hands to prepare for the next step, which was to sponge Squeezed Lemonade Distress ink in the circle to become the circle. Being me, I couldn't stop there, so I grabbed my Time Travel stencil by The Crafter's Workshop and sponged Wild Honey ink through that onto the circle. Then I grabbed my Sunburst stencil from The Crafter's Workshop and sponged Ripe Persimmon, Spiced Marmalade, and Dried Marigold Distress ink onto the sun. Gosh. I love stencils.

Now my background was done and it was on to the next part! I stamped the Resilient Woman by Susana Loves Stamps onto both Neenah cardstock and a piece of subtle dotted patterned paper from the Beautiful Moments 6x6 pad by Carta Bella using Tuxedo Black Memento ink. They were both colored with Copic markers, which I'll list below. When I was done, I fussy cut the dress only from the patterned paper and the full image of the one stamped on plain cardstock. The dress was adhered to the woman, then she was added to the grassy scene.

Chitchat stickers by Ideology were edged with a black Copic marker then adhered to scene.

Black cardstock was die cut with Garden Corners dies by SCACD and adhered to three corners of the card to finish it.

If you've read this whole thing, pat yourself on the back. If not, it's cool too. I know I'm nausea-inducingly verbose...and darn proud of it. *giggle*

Bellastastic Challenge!

I created this card to enter the current Stamping Bella Challenge on SCS. The theme is A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words and the challenge was to create a card/project with no sentiment and let the image(s) do all the talking.

I used this sketch from the Stampin' Royalty blog!

Here's my card!

I flipped the card 90° left and made the card into a square card to accommodate the image. The image is Uptown Girls--Clarissa & Camille (Coffee) by Stamping Bella, which I just got for Christmas! This stamp and all the other Stamping Bella stamps are on sale right now! Booya!

This super-cute image was stamped onto Neenah cardstock using Tuxedo Black Memento Ink, then colored with Copic markers, which I'll list below.

I chose the Copic colors to match the floral paper on the base of the card, which is from the Soho Garden 6x6 pad by American Crafts. The pink and green polka-dot papers are from the Bold & Bright Double Dot 6x6 pad by Bo-Bunny. The patterned paper I used to mat the image is ancient KMA paper. Do any of you remember that company?

I used Spellbinders circle and heart circle dies, plus a very, very old QuicKutz heart die.
