Bookmark Swap

Hi there! I recently participated in a bookmark swap where we were to create two bookmarks and send one to two partners. The bookmark could be any size, but had to contain a quote. I have loads of favorite quotes, but was delighted to find one included in my (sizeable) Lavinia Collection.

I also had an idea in my head for ages that involved keyholes and what one might find if one peeked through one. Now it just so happened that I had MFT's  Lock and Key Die-Namics Die Set in my stash that worked really well with one of the dies from Stampendous' Fitted Frames B Die Set.

Here are the bookmarks that should be winging their way over the pond to their destinations.

Supplies Used:
Lock and Key Die-Namics Die Set by My Favorite Things
Blue and Black Cardstock by Bazzill Basics®
Buttercup, Forget-Me-Not, and Cobalt Archival™ Ink by Ranger Industries
Picked Raspberry Distress® Ink by Tim Holtz® for Ranger Industries
STAY-tion by Wendy Vecchi for Ranger Industries
Stamping Platform

*The quote is from Billy and the MinPins, a Roald Dahl children's book.

Instructions:
  1. Cut an 8.5" x 11" piece of gold cardstock in half, so that you end up with two 8.5" x 5.5" panels.
  2. Cut one of the panels in half so that you have two 4.25" x 5.5" panels. Stack them.
  3. Position the Keyhole die from the Lock and Key Die-namics set in the center of the stacked panels, then run through your die-cut machine.
  4. Separate the two panels.
  5. Position one of the dies from the Fitted Frames set so that the key hole is centered from top to bottom and side to side, then run it through your die-cut machine.
  6. Repeat step #5 with the second panel. Set both aside for now.
  7. Cut a piece of mixed media paper to 5" square.
  8. Use magnets to secure the paper to the STAY-tion.
  9. Sponge the Buttercup Archival ink across the bottom.
  10. Sponge the Picked Raspberry Distress Ink above the yellow.
  11. Sponge the Buttercup Archival ink again so that it blends into the Picked Raspberry.
  12. Sponge Forget-Me-Not ink above the Picked Raspberry area.
  13. Sponge Picked Raspberry into the Forget-Me-Not to blend.
  14. Sponge Cobalt Ink at the top of the paper.
  15. Sponge Forget-Me-Not over the bottom part of the Cobalt ink to blend.
  16. Remove the panel from the STAY-tion and cut vertically at 2.5".
  17. Use magnets to secure one of the inked panels to the base of a Stamping Platform.
  18. Place one of the gold Key Hole die-cut panels over the inked panel to determine the placement of the clear stamps.
  19. Press the lid of the Stamping Platform onto the clear stamps and lift.
  20. Remove the gold Key Hole die-cut panel.
  21. Ink the stamp with Nocturne VersaFine Clair ink.
  22. Stamp. Repeat if necessary to have a good solid impression.
  23. Repeat Steps #21 and #22 with the second inked panel.
  24. Trim the inked, stamped panels as necessary to fit behind the Gold Keyhole die-cut panels.
  25. Adhere the gold Keyhole die-cut panels onto the stamped panelsbeing sure to center the images in the Keyhole frames. You'll notice I did a better job with one than with the other.
  26. Perfection is overrated.
  27. Set both panels aside.
  28. Cut blue cardstock to 2 7/8" x 6". Do it again for the second bookmark!
  29. Secure the blue cardstock to the stamping platform with magnets.
  30. Position the sentiment stamp as desired on the blue cardstock.
  31. Press the lid into the stamp, lift, and ink with Onyx Black VersaFine™ ink.
  32. Stamp and repeat if necessary to have a good impression.
  33. Repeat with the second blue bookmark.
  34. Cut black cardstock to 3" x 6 1/8" and repeat for the second bookmark.
  35. Mat the blue bookmark with the black cardstock. Twice.
  36. Adhere the Keyhole image panels to complete both bookmarks.
