Belated Birthday Card

This card was mostly done, the Crackle Accents had almost dried and I took a break for dinner. After dinner I was going to computer generate the birthday song, which was going to run in four strips from each skull. It was then going to be posted on November 1st as a combination Day of the Dead/Birthday Card for Shannon, the Bombshell Queen!

Alas, we finished dinner and the power went out. And stayed out. For days.

Bummer.

So here it is, unfinished, pristine in its lack of sentiment.

Here are the details. The stamp set is the Sugar Skull set from Bombshell Stamps. It was stamped with Tuxedo Black Memento ink and colored with a variety of Copic markers. I used Pitch Black Copic Spica pen in the eye sockets. When it was dry, I added Crackle Accents to all of the skulls and set the piece aside to dry. Overnight. See? I learned my lesson about touching Glossy/Crackle Accents before they're dry. It took me ten years, but I finally figured out that if I put it away from me (in another room), I'll be less inclined to touch it! Woot. THIS old dog CAN learn new tricks.

So, when it was all dry and crackly, I die cut it using Spellbinders dies, left the paper in the die, and sponged a mess of Distress Inks over it, then used the crinkly pouncer tool to add more Distress Inks. I die cut some yellow cardstock and pounced the same colors of Distress Ink onto it too. While I had the Distress inks out, I pulled some Ideology Music Tissue Tape and colored that as well.

The yellow cardstock was embossed using the 5" x 7" Walrus & Carpenter Embossing Folder by Couture Creations because I thought the flowers looked like the marigolds in the stamp. It was my first time using these particular embossing folders and I must stay that I was delighted with the depth of embossing and the 5" x 7" size!

So there you have it.

Thanks for visiting today!

  2. Well, I'll tell ya, Kath, that this is fabulous as it is, even though you had another vision for it. :^) I love the design, love the colors, your wonderful image, the embossing and distressing that you did, and that great tissue tape. (I have been tempted to buy some, keep putting it back on the rack, but it looks so cool on your card--I may have to rethink that! :^)

  3. I like the clean look of it, even if you didn't plan for it! I won't say it's cute but it has a great appeal to it :)
