Take Note!

SCACD's Blank Canvas Lotus - Small from the new Eclectic Collection #2 is the perfect size to adorn many smaller projects, such as Post-It Note books which make great small gifts. So that's what I did.

I started by stamping Blank Canvas Lotus - Small onto Idea-ology Tissue paper with Jet Black Archival ink. I flipped the tissue paper and painted the reverse with watered down Primary Magenta and Primary Yellow Media Fluid Acrylic (MFA) paints (DecoArt) and set it aside to dry for a few minutes. When it was dry, Titanium White MFA paint was painted over the painted reverse of the tissue paper, then allowed to dry again.

Primary Cyan and Dioxazine Purple MFA paints (DecoArt) were stippled over a scrap of 140 lb. Mixed Media cardstock (Strathmore) and heat set. When the panel was dry, Phthalo Blue MFA mixed with Interference Blue MFA was sponged over the Fish Scales stencil (The Crafter's Workshop) and heat set.

The Blank Canvas Lotus - Small stamped tissue paper was dry enough to handle, so it was fussy-cut.

Multi-Medium (Ranger) was sponged over the stenciled painted cardstock. the fussy-cut, stamped, painted Blank Canvas Lotus - Small was placed atop the wet piece, then a few more layers of Multi-Medium was sponged over both.

When the panel was dry, Interference Green MFA paint was sponged over the dragonfly on the Flying Gardens stencil (The Crafter's Workshop) three times. A scrap of green textured metallic cardstock was die-cut with the Missy Micro font die (Die-Versions) and adhered to the panel.

Black cardstock was cut to 3.25" x 6 7/8" then scored 3.25" from both ends. The edges of the stamped piece were sponged with Jet Black StazOn ink, then adhered to the black cardstock. Wonder Tape (Ranger) was used to adhere the Post-It pad to the inside.

Outlawz Coloring Challenge: Anything Goes

Here's my card for this week with Sweet Pea/Charmaine Flannery's Dragon Keeper!

I have the flu, courtesy of my dh's co-worker who came to work sick because she didn't want to give up vacation time. Now my whole family is sick. The flu is making my brain tired, so I opted to to use a sketch from PaperTake Weekly for the card. I also used cool colors, which makes my card a two-fer.

Dragon Keeper was resized in PhotoElements, printed out onto Neenah cardstock with my laser printer, and colored with Copic markers. Chalk pencil was used to add a bit of blush to her cheeks. The patterned papers are very old papers from The Memory Box and were layered according to the sketch.

This is a really short post from me because I still feel dreadful. I sure hope you're feeling okay!

Porthole View!

When I first saw SCACD's new Steampunk Sea Turtle Pair, project ideas immediately started percolating in my mind.

I recently was poking around in the basement at my father-in-law's house and found a gorgeous old illustrated edition of Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea (1933). The binding is a bit too delicate to hold up to the rigors of scanning, so I did a google search and found it as a free e-book from Project Gutenberg! I will be using the text from the book with these Steampunk Sea Turtle Pair in another project in the future, but since I had a need to do something now, I came up with this card.

The Steampunk Sea Turtle Pair was stamped with Tuxedo Black Memento ink, colored with Copic markers, and fussy-cut. The rivets and screws on the turtles' shells were coated with several layers of Clear Gelly Roll Glaze pen to add dimension and shine. Steampunk Sea Turtle Pair were set aside while I created the rest of the card.

Silver metallic cardstock was cut to 5 3/8" x 8 3/8", then a ringed circle was die-cut from it using one of the dies from the Nesting Rings die set (Lifestyle Crafts). This panel took two rides through my Big Kick inside a Riveted Metallic Texture Fades Embossing Folder (Sizzix). A transparency was adhered behind the aperture and the panel was set aside.

A sheet of 140 lb. Mixed Media cardstock (Strathmore) was sponged with Primary Cyan, Cobalt Teal Hue, and Cobalt Turquoise Hue Media Fluid Acrylic (MFA) paints (DecoArt) and heat set. Pthalo Green-Yellow MFA paint was sponged over the Kelp Forest stencil (The Crafter's Workshop), then heat set.

Greenish-silvery metallic specialty cardstock (FiberMark) was die-cut with the Steampunk Corner die (Memory Box). Different textured greenish-silvery metallic cardstock (FiberMark) was die-cut with the MiniGears die (Memory Box).

The Steampunk Corner die was adhered to the painted cardstock and the MiniGears die were adhered atop them. The Steampunk Sea Turtle Pair was added to the scene, then a few very old clear RainDots epoxy stickers were added here and there to look like air bubbles. A few RainDots were also adhered the transparency on the side that would be placed against the painted image panel.

The metallic silver panel was adhered over the image panel using dimensional foam tape, then adhered to a blue card.

I did not add a sentiment because I'm not sure who will get the card and for what occasion. I would imagine that "Sea You Soon" or the ilk will work well with it. I also didn't add some details to Riveted Metal panel and to the ocean scene. Can you guess what they'd be?

I should mention that you can buy the Sea Turtles Steampunk Sea Turtle Pair separately and that they are part of SCACD's larger Eclectic Collection #2 (a combo of six Steampunk and ethereal stamps).

Sunshine and Warmth!

Kaz is our hostess this week at Stampotique Designers Challenge Blog. Her challenge is "Bring Me Sunshine".

This is what she had to say about her challenge.

Here's my card with Stampotique's NY, NY (Janet Klein).

It's been way too freakin' cold for me here in New Jersey, so I was definitely into this challenge. NY, NY was stamped with Delicata Golden Glitz Metallic ink onto Neenah cardstock. Clear Detail embossing powder was sprinkled over the ink, the excess powder was dumped off, and the powder was heat set. NY, NY was then colored with Copic markers in golden tones, fussy-cut, edged with a Y26 Copic marker, and set aside while I created a background for it.

White metallic cardstock (Recollections) was sponged with Squeezed Lemonade Distress ink and heat set. When it was dry, Scattered Straw Distress ink was sponged over the Rays Layered Stencil. The stencil was moved slightly and Dandelion Memento ink was sponged over the stencil again. The ink was heat set. FYI, when white metallic cardstock is colored with inks, it gets all shimmery!

A hole was punched in a piece of scrap cardstock and Squeezed Lemonade Distress ink was sponged through the circle at the top of the panel.

The stamped, colored , fussy-cut, and edged NY, NY was adhered to the stenciled card front and the card front's edges were sponged with Delicata Golden Glitz Metallic ink, dragged through Clear Detail embossing powder, and heat set.

Off-white alphabet rub-ons, from my dwindling supply, were added to a strip of yellow vellum, run through my Xyron X machine, then adhered to the card front. The card front was matted, then adhered to a card.

Here's my card with You-Nique from the Brave Hearts Collection.

You-Nique was stamped with Tuxedo Black Memento ink and colored with Copic markers. Polychromos pencils were used to add some detail to her hair. Clear Stardust Gelly Roll Glitter pen was used to add some sparkle to the pom-pom on her hat. The hat monster's eyes were coated with Liquid Glass (DecoArt's Media line) to add glassy dimension and shine. You-Nique spent the night in a drawer so I would not be tempted to touch and mar the Liquid Glass.

The next morning You-Nique took a ride through my Big Shot in a die from the Card Creator 5x7 die set (Spellbinders). Patterned paper from a 6x6 pad by My Mind's Eye was die-cut and layered. The sentiment that comes with You-Nique was stamped with Jet Black Archival ink, die-cut with a Spellbinder's die, kept in the die, then airbrushed with a RV52 Copic marker. Ribbon was used to attach the sentiment to the card.

Here's my card with Sweet Pea's Runaway Ruby (Regan Kubecek).

Runaway Ruby was resized in PhotoElements, printed onto Neenah cardstock with my laser printer, then colored with Copic markers. Clear Gelly Roll Glaze pen was used to add dimension and shine to the skulls.

The patterned paper is from the Maritime 7 Gypsies 6x6 pad. Teal cardstock was die-cut with one of the two dies included in SCACD's Classic Corner die set. The border was die-cut as well, but being a me of little brain, I can't recall who makes that gorgeous intricate border. Oh well.

Stampotique New Release Blog Hop!

Today we are so excited about the new release for Stampotique Originals!!! We've been keeping it under wraps for weeks now, but know that some of you got a sneak at one of our new stamp artists.

Stampotique is thrilled to add to the line-up the designs one of our former team members and popular mixed media artist, Kate Crane (is that squealing we hear amongst you?). We know you all won't be disappointed with the line-up of stamps from all our artists this go around.

Are you ready to see some wonderful artwork showcasing some of the new stamps? There are 50+ new ones being released this time around, so plenty for everyone to choose from (or choose them all).

I was so excited by this new release that I made two cards!

The first card, with the wonderful Flower Truck (Janet Klein), was created because I'm tired of the blah drabness of winter and am eager for spring and its flowers to arrive!

The Flower Truck was stamped with Tuxedo Black Memento ink and colored with Copic markers. Flower Truck was also stamped onto Eclipse Tape (Judikins), which was fussy cut, and placed over the truck as a mask. Repositionable Scotch Tape was used to mask the base of the card.

I try to keep the cut Eclipse Tape masks, so I was able to find
some cloud Eclipse Tape masks which were positioned over the sky.

The image panel was die-cut with one of the dies from the Card Creator Nestabilities die set (Spellbinders). The panel was left in the die and the image panel was airbrushed with Copic markers.

A craft knife was used to cut around the two bottom tires and road-patterned washi tape was added.

The patterned papers are from the very old and hoarded Domestic Goddess collection by Graphic 45. Three red gemstones were added to complete the card.

Here's my second card with Skiddy, Penelope, The Hat Cube, and The Dog Cube. All of these images are by Daniel Torrente.

All the images were stamped with Tuxedo Black Memento ink, colored with Copic markers, fussy-cut either with scissors or a craft knife, and edged with black marker.

The patterned paper is quite old and is from a 6x6 pad by BoBunny. It was sponged with Summer Sky Memento ink. The bottom is gear-patterned washi tape and was topped with a second layer of washi tape.

Textured silver cardstock was die-cut with the MiniGears die by Memory Box. The edges of the card front were sponged with Gathered Twigs, Frayed Burlap, and Black Soot Distress inks.
