  5. Red-knit patterned paper  from the Knit Picky pad was cut with a scalloped frame die.
  6. The image panel was trimmed and adhered behind the frame die-cut.
  7. Once the image panel was secure in its frame, the green bird was adhered as shown.
  8. Both the green and yellow birds' eyes received some Glossy Accents to make them a dimensional.
  9. A dot of Quickie glue was used added to the pom-pom on the Santa hat and Fun Flock was sprinkled over the wet glue, and allowed to dry.
  10. The excess was blown off and step #8 was repeated.
  11. Grey knit-patterned paper and red cardstock were die-cut with the Simple Strips dies.
  12. The sentiment, from the wonderfully useful Classic Sentiments Clear Stamp Set, was stamped onto one of the strips of the grey-knit patterned paper then matted with a red cardstock die-cut.
  13. Patterned paper from the same patterned paper pad was layered to create the card front, the framed image panel was secured, and the sentiment adhered to finish the card.

Peeking through the Keyhole - Part 2

I've shared the bookmarks I made with keyholes and Lavinia Stamps. They couldn't make the overseas trip all by themselves, so I had to make cards to go with them! The keyhole die set that I had was too small for my purposes and my cutting skills just are not that good, so I was a bit flummoxed! Then I remembered that I had a the Locks and Keys Thick Stencil by Stamperia and I decided to go one-layerish and mixed-media. Then I realized that I was out of my favorite all Gold Metallic Acrylic paint! Sheesh. But I solved that problem too. Yahoo!

These are the cards that I created.

Supplies Used:
140 lb. Mixed Media Paper by Strathmore®
Blue and Black Cardstock by Bazzill Basics®
Buttercup, Forget-Me-Not, and Cobalt Archival™ Ink by Ranger Industries
Scattered Straw, Mowed Lawn, Picked Raspberry, Blueprint Sketch, and Chipped Sapphire Distress® Inks by Tim Holtz® for Ranger Industries
Nocturne VersaFine Clair™ Ink by Tsukineko®
Mooka Clear Polymer Stamp by Lavinia Stamps
Mooch Clear Polymer Stamp by Lavinia Stamps
Three Dancing Fairies Polymer Stamps by Lavinia Stamps
Gold Uni-Posca Brush Tip Paint Pen
STAY-tion by Wendy Vecchi for Ranger Industries
Stamping Platform
Removable ID Labels by Avery®
Circle Nestabilities® Die Set by Spellbinders
Pitt Artist Pens by Faber Castell

Instructions for both cards.  I used different stamps for each card and also used a mostly different set of inks (Archival inks vs. Distress inks). Sadly, I don't recall which card used which combination. I did keep notes, then inadvertently put it out with the recycling. Oops. I'm going to be as clear as possible with my instructions, but will likely fail in that endeavor.
  1. Cut a piece of 9" x 12" Mixed Media paper in half vertically to create two card panels.
  2. Use a small circle die from the Nestabilities die set to cut the label paper.
  3. Secure one panel to the STAY-tion with magnets.
  4. Position the stencil so that the keyhole is where you want it on the  panel and secure it in place with magnets. *For one card only, place the Removable Die-cut Circle in the circular part of the keyhole
  5. Sponge Buttercup Archival or Scattered Straw Distress ink* over the bottom part of the keyhole aperture onto the cardstock so that it's covering a quarterish of the keyhole.
  6. Tear a piece of scrap paper, place it horizontally over the yellow sponged area, and sponge Mowed Lawn Distress ink over top. Move the piece up (or down) a bit and sponge Mowed Lawn Distress ink again. Remove the scrap.
  7. Sponge Picked Raspberry Distress ink over the top part of the yellow ink.
  8. Sponge the Buttercup Archival ink or the Scattered Straw Distress ink over the Picked Raspberry to blend.
  9. Sponge either Forget-Me-Not Archival ink or Blueprint Sketch Distress ink over the top section of the Picked Raspberry ink.
  10. Sponge the Picked Raspberry ink over the blue ink to blend.
  11. Sponge either Cobalt Archival ink or Chipped Sapphire to the top of the circular part of the keyhole and a bit down the sides, covering the existing blue ink.
  12. Sponge the lighter blue ink (either Forget-Me-Not Archival ink or Blueprint Sketch Distress ink) over the darker blue to blend.
  13. Remove the stencil and the image panel(s) from the STAY-tion.
  14. Heat set the panels. Repeatedly. Then do it once more for good measure.
  15. Secure the image panel to the Stamp Platform with magnets.
  16. Position the Mooka (wolf) or Mooch (cat) stamps as desired on the lower part of the card, so that they appear to be sitting on the grass.
  17. Press the platform's lid onto the stamp(s), lift the platform, ink the stamp with Nocturne VersaFine Clair, and stamp. Repeat as often as needed to create a good solid impression.
  18. Remove the Mooka or Mooch stamps from the platform and give them a good cleaning.
  19. Position two of the Three Dancing Fairies as desired and repeat Step #17.
  20. Lift the circular mask off of Mooka-the-wolf's panel.
  21. *Trace and cut the circular part of the keyhole to create a mask and position it so that it's covering the top right part of the keyhole.
  22. Position the Bat Colony stamp and repeat Step #17.
  23. Remove the panels from the Stamp Platform and heat set thoroughly.
  24. Place the image panel(s) back onto the STAY-tion.
  25. Position the stencil so that it's lined up with the image. Secure everything with magnets.
  26. Use a Pitt Artist Pen along the inside of the stencil to outline the image.
  27. Take the image panel(s) off of the STAY-tion.
  28. Use the Gold Uni-Posca Paint pen to paint the rest of the card moving horizontally. The cool thing about the paint is that it seems to shift between being gold and silver metallic when dry.
  29. Go back and touch up the outlines with the Pitt Artist Pen.
  30. Trim the image panel to 3 5/8" x 8 7/8".
  31. Cut Black cardstock to 3.75" x 9" twice and use to mat the image panels.
  32. Cut Blue cardstock to 8" x 9.25".  I used two different shades of blue cardstock for the cards to match the slight color difference in the blues.
  33. Score the blue cardstock at 4".
  34. Adhere the image panels.
  35. Ta-Dah!

Bookmark Swap

Hi there! I recently participated in a bookmark swap where we were to create two bookmarks and send one to two partners. The bookmark could be any size, but had to contain a quote. I have loads of favorite quotes, but was delighted to find one included in my (sizeable) Lavinia Collection.

I also had an idea in my head for ages that involved keyholes and what one might find if one peeked through one. Now it just so happened that I had MFT's  Lock and Key Die-Namics Die Set in my stash that worked really well with one of the dies from Stampendous' Fitted Frames B Die Set.

Here are the bookmarks that should be winging their way over the pond to their destinations.

Supplies Used:
Lock and Key Die-Namics Die Set by My Favorite Things
Blue and Black Cardstock by Bazzill Basics®
Buttercup, Forget-Me-Not, and Cobalt Archival™ Ink by Ranger Industries
Picked Raspberry Distress® Ink by Tim Holtz® for Ranger Industries
STAY-tion by Wendy Vecchi for Ranger Industries
Stamping Platform

*The quote is from Billy and the MinPins, a Roald Dahl children's book.

Instructions:
  1. Cut an 8.5" x 11" piece of gold cardstock in half, so that you end up with two 8.5" x 5.5" panels.
  2. Cut one of the panels in half so that you have two 4.25" x 5.5" panels. Stack them.
  3. Position the Keyhole die from the Lock and Key Die-namics set in the center of the stacked panels, then run through your die-cut machine.
  4. Separate the two panels.
  5. Position one of the dies from the Fitted Frames set so that the key hole is centered from top to bottom and side to side, then run it through your die-cut machine.
  6. Repeat step #5 with the second panel. Set both aside for now.
  7. Cut a piece of mixed media paper to 5" square.
  8. Use magnets to secure the paper to the STAY-tion.
  9. Sponge the Buttercup Archival ink across the bottom.
  10. Sponge the Picked Raspberry Distress Ink above the yellow.
  11. Sponge the Buttercup Archival ink again so that it blends into the Picked Raspberry.
  12. Sponge Forget-Me-Not ink above the Picked Raspberry area.
  13. Sponge Picked Raspberry into the Forget-Me-Not to blend.
  14. Sponge Cobalt Ink at the top of the paper.
  15. Sponge Forget-Me-Not over the bottom part of the Cobalt ink to blend.
  16. Remove the panel from the STAY-tion and cut vertically at 2.5".
  17. Use magnets to secure one of the inked panels to the base of a Stamping Platform.
  18. Place one of the gold Key Hole die-cut panels over the inked panel to determine the placement of the clear stamps.
  19. Press the lid of the Stamping Platform onto the clear stamps and lift.
  20. Remove the gold Key Hole die-cut panel.
  21. Ink the stamp with Nocturne VersaFine Clair ink.
  22. Stamp. Repeat if necessary to have a good solid impression.
  23. Repeat Steps #21 and #22 with the second inked panel.
  24. Trim the inked, stamped panels as necessary to fit behind the Gold Keyhole die-cut panels.
  25. Adhere the gold Keyhole die-cut panels onto the stamped panelsbeing sure to center the images in the Keyhole frames. You'll notice I did a better job with one than with the other.
  26. Perfection is overrated.
  27. Set both panels aside.
  28. Cut blue cardstock to 2 7/8" x 6". Do it again for the second bookmark!
  29. Secure the blue cardstock to the stamping platform with magnets.
  30. Position the sentiment stamp as desired on the blue cardstock.
  31. Press the lid into the stamp, lift, and ink with Onyx Black VersaFine™ ink.
  32. Stamp and repeat if necessary to have a good impression.
  33. Repeat with the second blue bookmark.
  34. Cut black cardstock to 3" x 6 1/8" and repeat for the second bookmark.
  35. Mat the blue bookmark with the black cardstock. Twice.
  36. Adhere the Keyhole image panels to complete both bookmarks.

It's Time to Celebrate!

I know it's not Tuesday, but I'm sharing a card today created for Topflight Stamps because one of my teammates swapped days with me. This week my teammates and I are sharing projects created with the wonderful products by That's Crafty!

It's fairly well known that I love all things Steampunk, ranging from fiction to the aesthetic. So, when That's Crafty released several Steampunk-themed clear stamp sets designed by Kelly Horton, I had to have most of them, especially since several of the stamp sets also had skulls, cats, and owls, which are a few of my favorite things!

Here's my card using two of the gorgeous ladies from That's Crafty's Steampunk Darlings, Set 1 by That's Crafty, one of the cats from the Steampunk Darlings Accessories Set 2, and a sentiment from Darkroom Door's Celebrate Sentiment Strip Red Rubber Cling Stamp.

  6. When the gel ink is dry, apply several layers of Clear Glaze Gel pen to add glossy dimension and shine to them.
  7. Use Gold or Silver Stardust Glitter Gel pen to add sparkle to the buckles and the center of the cat's medallion.
  8. Set all both Darlings and the cat aside to work on the background. Don't worry. They'll keep each other amused.
  9. I found some wonderful Industrial-themed patterned paper by Studio Light in my stash and chose the brick and pipes paper to use as a background.
  10. Warm and Tonic Grey Copic markers were used to add some detail and shadows to the brick, then the piece was edged with Pumice Stone Distress ink.
  11. A strip of rusty rivets from another patterned paper pad was cut, then edged with Cracked Pistachio Distress Ink.
  12. This strip was adhered to the bottom of the brick and pipe paper to ground the images.
  13. The Time Machine 5 (3 Industrial Lights) die and one of the gears from the Gearheads Thinlits die set were used to cut white cardstock.
  14. The light and the gear die-cuts were colored with Copic markers.
  15.  A Nestabilities circle die was used to cut white cardstock.
  16. The die-cut was colored with Copic markers, then the clock rub-on was applied.
  17. Post-It Notes were used to cover the sentiments that I did not want to use on the Celebrate Sentiment Strip stamp.
  18. The stamp was inked, and the notes were discarded, the sentiment was stamped onto white cardstock, then die-cut with a tiny unlabeled rectangle die.
  19. White cardstock was cut slightly larger than the sentiment rectangle.
  20. Both the sentiment rectangle and its mat were colored with Copic markers.
  21. A Chain Die and the Nuts and Bolts Die were used to cut silver metallic cardstock.
  22. The patterned paper card front was adhere to the 6" card.
  23. The two Darlings, the cat, the light fixture, and the circle/gear clock were adhered to the card front.
  24. The sentiment was matted then adhered to finish the card.
*The cat was colored to look like my Domino, who is the long haired cat of my duo. His sister, Harley Quinn, is a short-haired kitty and half his size (but ripped). Her dark headpiece is darker than her brothers and her tail features faint tabby striping.

**Truth be told, I could have used a brick stencil from my stash and then used Pipe dies or chipboard (both in my stash). Alternately, I could have applied texture paste through a pipeworks stencil onto the brick stenciled background. I did contemplate this option, but decided I would use those techniques another time.
