Toucan Do It Anniversary Card

Way back in the dark ages, we sent a punny wedding card to friends. The card featured two toucans and the sentiment "Two-Can Do It". So when I saw Stampendous' new Jungle Life Perfectly Clear™ Stamp Set, I knew that eventually I'd get around to using the toucan from the set to recreate that card. However, there was only one toucan in the set and I really wanted the two toucans to face each other. Enter Stampendous' new Mirror Stamping Plate!

Here's the front view of my card.

Here's the side view of my card.

  1. Cut the jungle leaves patterned paper and green cardstock to 4 3/8" x 6 3/8".
  2. Using the base die from the WindowRama Cutting Die Set, cut both.
  3. Fold the green cardstock forwards on both of the innermost score lines, ~1" from either side,  to create the back of the card. Set aside for now.
  4. Fold the patterned paper backwards on both of the the innermost score lines to form the card front.
  5. Center the heart die on the patterned paper, tape into place with removable tape, then run through a die-cut machine.
  6. Use a C8 marker to edge all edges of the patterned paper, including along the folds on either side.
  7. Set the front of the card aside for now.
  8. Using London Fog Memento ink, stamp the toucan onto white cardstock. Set aside.
  9. Place the Mirror Stamping Plate onto the cover of the Misti.
  10. Remove the foam from the base of the Misti and place the toucan stamp onto the base.
  11. Ink the stamp thoroughly with London Fog Memento ink.
  12. Close the cover onto the stamp. This will leave an inked reverse impression on the Mirror Plate. Repeat if you don't think the impression is complete.
  13. Remove the stamp from the base of the Misti, replace the foam, place cardstock into position secured with magnets, close the cover, and stamp.
  14. Fussy-cut both toucans, color with Copic markers, and edge with the corresponding color, i.e. a C9 where the toucan is black, YG17 where the beak is green, etc.
  15. Add details with the Triplus Fineliner pens.
  16. Add white dots to eyes.
  17. Adhere the two toucans on either side of the heart-shaped aperture of the card front, making sure that there is no adhesive where the toucans overlap the aperture.
  18. Die-cut green cardstock with one of the small dies from the Fitted Frames A Die set.
  19. Add the sentiment sticker to the die-cut and adhere to the card front.
  20. Sponge or brush Forest Moss Distress ink over the Jungle Leaves Stencil onto the center of the card back.
  21. This proved to be a bit dark, so Forest Moss Distress Oxide ink was sponged over the stencil, followed by Twisted Citron Distress Oxide ink.
  22. Lift the stencil and heat set the ink.
  23. Adhere the front of the card to the back of the card using a strong adhesive such as liquid glue or double sided tape.

Elephant Remembers, But I Don't Notepad

When I saw Stampendous' new Elephant Clling Rubber and Die Set,  I wanted to think outside the box a little. Since these days, I'm a me of little brain and can't remember squat-all. Elephants are know to have prodigious memory, I decided to decorate a little notepad to jot down lists of things I'm supposed to remember. When I have a little notebook to keep in my purse,  my list gets carried around with me, rather than left at home.

I should note that the Elephant Cling Rubber and Die Set is sized to be used with the fabulous new WindowRama Die Set!

Here's the front view.

Here's the side view.

Kraft Notepad: Source Unknown*

Instructions:
  1. Using Tuxedo Black Memento ink, stamp the Elephant onto Copic-friendly cardstock.
  2. Color the elephant, die-cut him, edge him with a dark marker, and set him aside for now.
  3. Sponge Summer Sky Memento ink over the Picasso stencil onto Mixed Media paper. Repeat this step with the Angel Pink Memento ink until you are happy with the "sky".
  4. Die-cut green cardstock with the treeline die and the grassy border die from the Meadow Edgers die set. The grassy border die actually cuts grass blades into the cardstock, so you have to die-cut again by positioning the curved die over the grass.
  5. Use Fern Green Archival ink to randomly stamp the grass borders from the Meadow Edge Perfectly Clear Stamp Set and the the Scenic Meadow Cling Rubber Stamp Set.
  6. Edge all green die-cuts with the Fern Green Archival ink.
  7. Layer the green die-cuts over the blue/pink stenciled sky.
  8. Trim this piece to 3/16" smaller than the notebook.
  9. Cut green cardstock to 1/8" smaller than the notebook as shown and use the green cardstock to mat the image panel.
  10. Die-cut green cardstock with "Remember" from the Friendships Words Die Set.
  11. Adhere the elephant and the sentiment to the image panel as shown using Media Matte Medium.
  12. Coat the image panel with Media Matte Medium, then use the Matte Medium to adhere the image panel to the notepad.
  13. Unseat the flap of the notepad, place a piece of acetate* under the cover, then add several layers of Matte Medium over the image panel onto the notepad to seal and protect them. Let dry completely before going to the next step.
  14. Remove the acetate, then adhere the Washi tape to the bottom of the notepad as shown and rub on the "Note to Self" sentiment.
  15. Coat the Washi tape with several layers of Media Matte Medium to seal the sentiment.
*Helpful Hint: Always save the acetate packaging for use in other projects. These pieces make great shields, covers for shaker cards, and/or invisible pieces to hang/suspend images or die-cuts.

Happy Birthday: To or From the Cat!

Whimsy Stamps is the sponsor this week at Passionate Paper Creations and Friends. As a certified cat lady, I had to use Kitty-ology, a fantastic digital stamp.

Here's my card.

I decided that I was going to create a side-step birthday card using The Stamp Doctor's fabulous  Side-Step Card Die Set. You can purchase this die which cuts and adds score lines for an A2 Side-Step card. Or you can be like me and get the whole combo which gives you a mess of other dies so that you can die-cut all the layers you'd want. Just go to the link and use the pull-down menu. OOH! Edited to add that if you use the code KathsTales, you'll get a 10% discount. Cool, eh?

You'll note that the smart kitty is colored like my cats who are mostly white with black/grey spots on their heads. Domino is a puffy long hair and his sister, Harley Quinn, has short hair and grey spots on her body. They're now a year old, having celebrated their birthday on March 21st.

  11. Using Potting Soil Archival ink, stamp the sentiment circle onto patterned paper then die-cut it with the corresponding circle die.
  12. Edge the circle with Distress ink.
  13. Use Potting Soil Archival ink to sponge a paw print into the center of the die-cut sentiment circle.
  14. Die-cut brown cardstock using the next largest circle and use this circle to mat the sentiment.
  15. Adhere the cat and the sentiment.

Today I'm sharing the smallest from PaperMart's three Square Cap Top Box Wood set decorated with Laurel Burch™ Hummingbird Wishes Perfectly Clear™ Stamp Set.

Supplies Used:

Other Supplies Used:
Copic® Markers:
Black Multiliner Pen by Copic®
Solar White Classic Crest® Cardstock by Neenah Papers
Media® Matte Medium by DecoArt®
StazOn® Jet Black Ink by Tsukineko®
Black cardstock
Baby Wipes
Liquid Adhesive
Stamp Positioner

Instructions:
  1. Take the boxes apart, separating the top and bottom from each of the three boxes. For this project, I've used the smallest box.
  2. Mix White and Tan Patina Vintage Effect Wash Acrylic Paint. Brush over the top and sides of the top and bottom of the largest box. Let dry.
  3. Repeat application to ensure full coverage, but wipe back slightly with a baby wipe so that the wood grain still shows. Let dry.
  4. Apply White Vintage Effect Wash in horizontal streaks using a baby wipe. Let dry and set aside.
  5. Repeat steps 2, 3, 4 with the insides of the box and the base of the box.
  6. Using a stamp positioner, stamp the floral border with Tuxedo Black Memento ink onto white cardstock.
  7. Remove the border from the stamp positioner and place the hummingbird where you want him to be. Stamp him using Tuxedo Black Memento ink.
  8. Color both the hummingbird and the border with Copic markers. Use blue markers to add a sky, then use the E markers to add some dots to the background so that the painted box and the image panel coordinate. This step is not necessary if you plan all your color schemes ahead and paint and color accordingly.
  9. Trim the image panel to 3.5" square and mat with a slightly larger square of black cardstock.
  10. Use wet adhesive to adhere the matted image panel to the top of the box.
  11. Using Jet Black StazOn ink, stamp the sentiments and the decorative icons onto the box's side. Apply a bit more pressure than you'd ordinarily use because the painted surface is a bit uneven.
  12. Use a MultiLiner or fine-tipped black Sharpie to touch up the sentiments and icons.
  13.  Let dry, then brush the top and sides with Media Matte Medium. Let dry and repeat.
