Floral Steampunk Birthday Card

It's Tuesday, which means that it's my day to share a project created for Topflight Stamps! Today I've got a monochromatic floral steampunk birthday card featuring the large and lovely  Flowers and Gears Clear Stamp set by AALL and Create. This set is a "must have" if you like Steampunk imagery.

True confession #1:  I am not much of a gardener, so I have no idea what kind of flowers these are, which means that I had to fight my inner Virgo who usually makes me check Google to make sure I use the correct colors. I went the easy route and made the flowers monochromatic. If you're reading this and know what kind of flowers these are, let me know though I think that next time I'll just make them whatever colors speak to me at the moment.

Pink Peony, Blue Violet, and Shadow Grey Archival™ Inks by Ranger Industries

Instructions:
  1. Using Memento ink, stamp the largest flower (with the leaf) onto white cardstock and onto label paper.
  2. Fussy-cut the label paper version and place it over its counterpart on the white cardstock.
  3. Stamp the smaller flower onto either side of the masked large flower as shown and twice onto label paper.
  4. Fussy-cut both small flowers and adhere atop their counterparts.
  5. Stamp two sets of gears below the flowers as shown.
  6. Lift up all masks, repair any broken and/or incomplete lines with the Multiliner pens (or other Copic-friendly pens).
  7. Color the images with Copic markers.
  8. Realize you somehow left a huge black smudge on the lower right corner of the image panel.
  9. After swearing a light blue streak, use a corner rounder punch on both lower corners, which will remove the unsightly smudge.
  10. Decide you like the look and call it a "Happy Accident".
  11. Sponge around the edges with Distress ink and Archival inks to complete the image panel.
  12. To create the card front, place the Stamperia stamp face-up on your work surface, apply three colors of Archival ink to the stamp, lay rose-ish cardstock atop the stamp, and use your hand (or a brayer) to smooth the cardstock onto the stamp thereby transferring the image. Unless you're really magical, you likely will not get a perfect impression. Such is life. Suck it up and move on.
  13. Trim the gear stamped background to 6.75" x 4.75" and edge with the same inks.
  14. Adhere the card front to 7" x 5" card.
  15. Adhere the image panel to the card.
  16. Stamp the sentiment onto the reverse of one of the strips remaining from step #13. Trim and edge with the same inks.
  17. Adhere the sentiment to the card front to complete the card.

Wine Not?

Stampendous' January release included several wonderfully versatile "Frame" Perfectly Clear Stamp sets that include a focal image and several sentiments that fit inside those frames perfectly. This week, my Stampendous teammates and I are featuring the Wine Frame Perfectly Clear Stamp Set, which is one of my favorites of the frame sets because WINE NOT?

Here's the stamp set so you can see all those fabulous sentiments.

Here's my card.

Every Dream...

It's Tuesday, which means that it's time for me to share a card created for Topflight Stamps. This week my TFS teammates and I are showcasing fabulous PaperArtsy products. You should pop over to Topflight Stamps Blog throughout the week to see what these talented ladies have created!

I've recently discovered Zinski's range of stamps for Paper Artsy and have fallen in love with her odd and whimsical creatures, flowers, and houses. Today's card features Zinski Zini-Mini #45 and Zini-Mini #47. Both stamps are lovely deep-etched rubber stamps, mounted on cling.

Here's the card, which shows these edgy dudes, separated by 6', sharing a dream. They're dreaming of  and wishing for a cocktail or ice cream sundae (personally, I'd prefer a cocktail), which is one of the stamps in Les Drôles D'Accessoires (Funny Accessories) Unmounted Rubber Stamp set by Katzelkraft. I was elated to find the perfect sentiment, "Every Dream...",  in my Lavinia stamp collection.

Be Safe Card

It's Tuesday, so it's time to share a project created for Topflight Stamps! This card was prompted by the current situation, Darkroom Door's Glass Dome/Bell Jar Frame Red Rubber Cling Stamp, and all of the Lavinia stamps

Additionally, back when I was in college (during the dark ages), I took a drawing class. One of our assignments was to create a drawing of a glass container with something in it. I ended up doing a series of drawings based on that assignment. So, when I saw the Glass Dome/Bell Jar, I knew that I *needed* it to use with my stamps.

Here's the card with a scene created with Lavinia StampsFairy Shops 2 and Fir Tree Clear Polymer Stamps under Darkroom Door's Glass Dome/Bell Jar Frame Red Rubber Cling Stamp.

Topflight Products Used:
Fairy Shops 2 Clear Polymer Stamp by  Lavinia Stamps

   Grass: YG05, YG11, YG13, YG17
   Stone Walkways: N1, N2, N3, E93

Finnabair Sentiment Stickers by Prima® Marketing
Black Soot Tim Holtz® Distress® Ink by Ranger Industries

Grey Cardstock
Post-It® Note by 3M
Stamp Positioner
Stamp-a-ma-jig® by EK Success
STAY-tion™ by Wendy Vecchi/Ranger Industries

Removable ID Labels by Avery®

Instructions:
I decided that I should actually take photos during the process for the visual learners (like me).

1. I realized that the Fairy Shops 2 was going to be too wide to fit under the Glass Dome/Bell Jar, so I used a Post-It Note to cover the shop on the right.

2. The stamp was inked with Memento ink.

3. The Post-It Note was removed and the image onto white metallic cardstock and onto mask paper.

4. The mask image was fussy-cut, then placed over the image. The image panel was secured to my STAY-tion with magnets and a stamp positioner was used to stamp the Glass Dome/Bell Jar over the Fairy Shops

5. The Glass Dome scene was fussy-cut and edged with a dark marker.

6. The Glass Dome/ Bell Jar was stamped a second time onto a scrap of the mask paper, fussy-cut, and placed over its counterpart.

7. With the masks in place, the sky area was sponged with Periwinkle Prism ink. The Fir Tree was stamped over the masks onto the scene using Rainforest Prism ink.

8. The masks were lifted and the image was colored. After #Step 10, I realized that I should have touched up the right side of the house, but it was too late. Oops. Bad me.

9. A white paint marker was used to add a reflection to the "glass" area of the dome and allowed to dry.

10. A VersaMarker was used to color the glass part of the Glass Dome, so that clear embossing powder could be heat set. This step was repeated several times to build a clear gloss on the dome.

11. Greyish cardstock was used to create an A2 card. A strip of the same cardstock was cut to 1" x 6" and edged with Black Soot Distress Ink.

12. The strip of cardstock was adhered to a wood-grained piece of patterned paper from the 6x6 pad, trimmed to 4" x 5.25", edged with Black Soot Distress ink, then adhered to the grey card.

13. The Dome was placed as desired and a Sketch and Wash pencil was used to trace it. The Dome was removed and a wet paintbrush was used to create a shadow on the patterned paper and grey cardstock.

14. The Dome was adhered atop its shadow.

15. The sentiment stickers were edged with Black Soot Distress ink and adhered as shown to finish the card.

Here's my card:

Since I love penguins and collect penguin stamps and other penguin-themed items, I wanted to show that penguin stamps are versatile and can be used all year long, even if they're specifically designed for Christmas.  I opted to use the largest of the three big penguins included in We Three Kings Clear Photopolymer Stamp set by Pink Ink Designs®.  However, his crown had a fluffy rim under the crown which spoke Christmas to me.
